Teste ANPAD - Simulao da Prova de Ingls

TEXT 1

If we consider information transfer in its broadest sense, the information

industry, with all its complex ramifications, now employs more people than any
other. To the old established methods of conveying information through the written
word, in books, newspapers, magazines and by direct speech in traditional
teaching establishments and at public meetings, we must now add many new ones.
These include the transfer of information by telephone, radio and television;
photographs and films; records and cassettes; and last (but certainly very far from
least) by extraction from the vast store of knowledge electronically accumulated in
modern databases.

This extension of the realm of information, and of the means of conveying it,
gives a great deal of indirect employment in the manufacturing of paper and
photographic film; printing and processing machinery; a great range of complex
electrical, electronic and reprographic equipment; teaching aids and so on.

Today, information retrieved via computers has come to be regarded as a

normal feature of daily life in the western world. Communicating via computers,
travel agents can within minutes check the availability of seats for a particular
flight on the other side of the world; banks can check the credit-worthiness of
customers before dispensing cash via a machine hundreds of miles away; investors
can have an instant resum of the financial status of companies in which they are
interested.
