CHAPTER I
PRELIMINARY
A. Background
Storytelling uses a renderer's ability to convey a story with style,
intonation, and aids that interest the listener. Storytelling is often used in
teaching and learning process primarily at the beginner or children level. This
technique is useful to practice the ability to hear fun. The person who wants to
convey the storytelling must have good public speaking skills, understand the
character of the listener, imitate the sounds, intelligently manage the tone and
intonation as well as the skill of using the tools. It is said to successfully use
storytelling techniques, if the listener is able to capture the story and feel
entertained. In addition, moral messages in the story are also obtained. It is
said to succeed when the listener is able to capture the story and feel

Therefore the authors want to take a story telling entitled "Little Red
Riding Hood". Where "Little Red Riding Hood is a fairy tale that tells of a
small girl and an evil wolf. This tale comes from French 1697 by Charles
Perrault. Along with the development of multimedia, this story has evolved
into many versions such as the Grimm brothers that make a different ending to
this story, knowing this story was made in 1697. This story gives a message to
the child not to give advice to parents, although many interesting things
distract and advice the parents and can not directly believe in new people.
Attitudes like this should be planted since childhood and can be absorbed well
by childrens, then the compiler is interested to take this story.
B. Purpose
1. General Purpose
To take the exam in advanced English course with storytelling
theme and titled Little Red Riding Hood
2. Special Purpose
The purpose of story telling exams are :
a. To improve speaking skills
b. To improve critical thinking skills
c. To improve the quality of self
d. To improve leadership skills
e. To Overcoming fear to speak in public
CHAPTER II
THEORY REVIEW STORYTELLING
A. Definition
According to Echols (in aliyah, 2011) storytelling consists of two words:
story means story and telling means storytelling. The merging of two word
storytelling means telling stories or telling a story. In addition, storytelling is
also called storytelling or storytelling as proposed by Malan, storytelling is a
story based on oral tradition. Storytelling is an attempt made by storytellers to
convey the content of feelings, ideas or a story to children as well as oral.
According to Pellowski (in Nurcahyani, 2010) defines storytelling as an
art or art of a narrative skill of stories in the form of poetry or prose, which is
shown or led by one person in the presence of the audience directly in which
the story can be narrative by way of narrated or Sung, with or without music,
pictures, or with other accompaniments that may be learned orally, either
through printed sources, or through sources of mechanical recordings.
B. Value Storytelling
1. Personal Value
According Siswanto (2008), said that the story was able to develop
personal value if the message conveyed can :
Giving pleasure and enjoyment
Developing the imagination
Provide a truly memorable experience
Develop a view toward human behavior
Provide experiences that are universal
2. Educational / intellectual Value
Siswanto also mentioned that the story contains an educative value,
namely :
Develop language skills
Develop reading skills
Develop sensitivity to the story
Improve writing skills
Helping the development of social aspects
Assist the development of emotional aspects
Helping the development of creativity aspects
Helps the development of cognitive aspects
C. Types of Storytelling
According to Asfandiyar (2007), based on its content storytelling can be
classified into various types. However, in this case, the researchers limit the
type in :
1. Educational Storytelling
The tale of education is a fairy tale created with a suatumisi
education for the world of children. For example, inspire respect to
parents.
2. Fable
Fable is a fairy tale about the life of animals that are described to
speak like humans. Fable stories are very flexible to use to insinuate
human behavior without offending humans. For example; Fairy tales,
rabbits, and turtles.
D. Benefits Storytelling
According to Hibana (in Kusmiadi, 2008), the benefits of this storytelling
activity are :
Develop fantasy, empathy and different kinds of feelings
Grow interest in reading
Build closeness and harmony
Instructional Media
The other benefits for children with storytelling, among others are :
Develop thinking power and imagination of children.
Develop children's speaking skills.
Develop child socialization
Means of communication with the child's parents
Media therapy of children with problems
Developing a child's spirituality
Grow motivation or life spirits
Embedding values and character
Building inner contact between educators and students
Build characters
Developing cognitive (knowledge), affective (feeling), social, and conative
aspects (appreciation).

CONTENTS
Synopsis And Storytelling Little Red Riding Hood
Little Red Riding Hood went through the forest, with the little basket for
her grandmother, who lived in a nearby village. Along the way, she saw many
beautiful flowers in the forest.
Little Red Riding Hood : Oh, what beautiful flowers! I will take
some to my grandmother.
She left the little basket on the ground to pick up some flowers, when
suddenly
Little Red Riding Hood kept looking for flowers disobeying her mother
who told her not to stop in the forest and to get to her grandmothers house.
Meanwhile, the wolf knocked at Little Red Riding Hood grandmothers house.
Little Red Riding Hood sat in a chair, and looked at her grandmother.
The Wolf gobbled up Little Red Riding Hood. Then the wolf fell asleep.
Meanwhile a woodsman was passing by the little house, when he saw the door
open. He entered, looked for the old lady, and then he saw the wolf.
He grabbed the wolf by the neck and made him spit out the poor
Grandmother and Little Red Riding Hood who were still in one piece.
Little Red Riding Hood : Oh, thank you, good woodsman.
Grandmother : This will be a lesson for you, Little Red
Riding Hood. Now you will never disobey your mother again.
