2017-2018 New Hire Information for Employees

SYSTEM ACCOUNT INFORMATION:


System: Website / Description / Login Info:
Website: mail.google.com (Not currently integrated with IAM - manually created upon hire.)
Description: Our email is powered by Google Apps for Education (GAFE). Upon login you will
have access to Mail, Calendar, Drive, Docs, Contacts, etc.
Default Username: firstname.lastname@bcsemail.org (note the . in between).
Default password: DOB (YYYYMMDD) Support: 828-255-5987 or helpdesk@bcsemail.org
You will need to claim your IAM account in order to set your initial computer password. Prior
to being assigned an official 10-digit UID by the State login with username bcsvisitor - check
with your Admin for the bcsvisitor account password as it changes every month. Visit
intranet.buncombeschools.org/UID to see if your UID is activated, then visit
my.ncedcloud.org to claim your IAM account (see Tip Sheet link below) and set your
password. Wait five minutes. Log out of the bcsvisitor account and log in using your
UID/IAM Password. The IAM password change syncs to Windows 8.1 (Active Directory),
SchoolMessenger (BCS Employee Website), Office 365, Zscaler (web filtering), & BOLT
technology ticket system. PLEASE NOTE: Office 365 and Zscaler, as well as downloading and
activating Office on personal devices, requires @k12bcs.net after UID to log in - not your
email address. Once you have an Active Directory account password you can submit

(formerly Aesop) is where employees log their absences and view leave balances. To create an
absence, fill in the absence date(s), reason, time, and Notes to Administrator. Then click the
Create Absence button. Alternatively, can log absences via 1-800-94-AESOP. ID: 10-digit home

The Statewide IAM service is our Single Sign-On portal for several local (e.g. Canvas, Discovery
Education, Clever) and Statewide applications (e.g. PowerSchool, NCEES, & SchoolNet) with more
to come. Once you have a State UID you can Claim Your IAM Account and set an initial
password. The State requires employees to change their IAM password every 90 days. Claim

Description: Home Base PowerSchool is used to track student attendance and grades. Home
Base NC Educator Effectiveness System (NCEES) is where teachers access their Professional

Login Information: Username consists of the first three letters of your last name followed by the
last four numbers of your social security number. Your initial 9-digit password is your employee

PAY FOR LICENSED POSITIONS:


Degree level of Teacher Certificate plus years of teaching experience determine placement on Teacher Salary Schedule.

If an employee is filling in for a teacher on an approved leave of absence, the employee will receive substitute teacher pay
until the employee on leave has exhausted his/her leave and is no longer on payroll. Once the regular teacher has
exhausted leave, the interim teacher may be eligible for benefits (if 6 months of employment) and may be eligible for
payment on the teacher salary schedule if appropriately licensed.

PAY FOR NON-LICENSED/CLASSIFIED POSITIONS:
A non-licensed employee is paid on the pay grade applicable to the position for which the employee is hired. View the

A new employee will begin at step 0 on the applicable salary schedule unless the employee has experience with a North
Carolina state agency or a North Carolina public school system and has noted this on the Aggregate Service form, which is
one of the online pre-employment forms. Personnel will verify the information provided by the employee and then place
the employee on the salary schedule applicable to the years of verified experience.

LOCAL SUPPLEMENT:
Licensed employees:
If approved each year by the county commissioners,
0-4 years on license 8.50% of base salary
a local supplement is paid to permanent employees.
Some restrictions apply. The rate of the local 5-9 years on license 9.50% of base salary
supplement for 2017-2018 are in the chart to the 10-14 years on license 10.50% of base salary
right: 15-19 years on license 11.50% of base salary
20-24 years on license 12.50% of base salary
BENEFITS: 25-29 years on license 13.50% of base salary
BCS employees in full-time, permanent positions are 30+ years on license 16.00% of base salary
eligible to receive full-time benefits. Non-licensed employees: 10.77% of base salary
Full-time means at least 30 hours per week.
Permanent means at least six (6) full, consecutive months of employment or anticipation of permanent employment.
Employees in part-time, permanent positions are eligible to receive part-time benefits. Part-time means at least 20 hours
per week. Permanent means at least six (6) full, consecutive months of employment or anticipation of permanent
employment.

Full-time benefits include:


Enrollment in the Teachers and State Employees Retirement System of the State of North Carolina
Enrollment in the State Health Plan for the individual employee (employees may pay for dependent coverage)
Accrual of annual leave and longevity pay (if applicable) are as follows:

For classifications of employees eligible to receive longevity, it is paid once a year in a lump sum based upon the
employees' anniversary month.
Those paid on a teacher, assistant principal or principal pay scale, are not eligible to receive longevity.
Flexible Benefits Plan New full time permanent employees and part time employees transferring to a permanent position
or combined positions working more than 30 hours per week are eligible to purchase dental, vision and group term life
insurance. Additional insurances are available during Flexible Benefits Annual Enrollment. More info at

Part-time benefits include:


Permanent part-time employees (at least 20 hours per week) accrue leave, may purchase health insurance, and are
eligible for the local supplement.

TEMPORARY EMPLOYEES:
Are employed less than 6 months; Do not earn Annual Leave, Sick Leave, Holiday pay; Do not contribute to Retirement
System; Not eligible for Health Coverage.
