Tutorial 1

I am currently working with AmBank Group of which cater for financial product and
services from deposits, loans and advances. By virtue of the nature of business, we
are more focus on the Process Focus.

All operations are grouped according to the type of process. In a bank, these
processes might be departments devoted to strategic planning, product, sales and
marketing, processing, risk management, legal and documentation, disbursement
and credit control and collection, respectively. Those are very significant processes
that need to be focused to drive the direction of the bank in short and long horizon.

In an office that being a support and backroom operations, the processes can be
account payable, account receivable, sales and payroll. They provide a high degree
of product flexibility as product moves between processes. Each process is designed
to provide a high variety of activities and handle frequent changes. Consequently
they are also called intermittent process.

The system is also called job shop as the product moves from one department to
another in small batches that are determined by the bank and customers
preference. The processes are very significant to the existence of the bank of which
to maintain its high level of corporate governance.

Why we chose the strategy?

Favourably, the process focus is suited with our banks business model of which to
go through every unit/ department before the product can be sold. This require highly
skilled and competent person that must understand good corporate governance and
risk management, respectively. Addition of substantial numbers of policies, it will not
run from t\other strategy except a Process Focus.

It is strictly monitored, controlled and guided by policies and regulations that nobody
will above it. For instance, in detecting Anti Money Laundering (AMLA) activities,
every stage and process shall be strictly followed plus reporting requirements to the
bank and respective authorities (BNM/ SC). Hence, AMBank is more driven by
Process Focus.
