contaminants like dust, traces of curing
compound, oil and grease. All surface
imperfectionsandprotrusionsshallberemoved
and repaired. Structurally unsound and friable
concretemustberemovedandrepairedwitha
suitablepolyCREtE*concreterepairmortar.

rollerorspray.Allowtheprimertodrypriortothe
applicationofthemembrane.Astheviscosityof
the primer is low, it easily penetrates into the
concrete pores which promotes the adhesion
betweenthemembraneandtheconcretesurface.

Starttheinstallationofallmembranepliesfrom

BitupluS px membranesareinstalledbyusinga
cylinderfedpropanegastorch.useofhand-held
roofingtorchisrecommendedasitaffordsagood
control.ifmultipleburnertorchingmachinesare
utilized, care must be taken to ensure the
applicationofuniformheatandavoidoverheating

ofthemembrane.Begintorchingtheembossed
polyethylene side of the rolled portion of the
membrane. proper torching procedure involves
passingthetorchflameinanlpatternapplying
about 75 percent of the heat across the coiled
portion of the roll and 25 percent across the
substrate,includingthelapareaofthepreviously
installedmembrane.Asthemembraneisheated
theembossingstartstomeltawayexposingashiny
bitumensurface.Rollforwardthemembraneand
press firmly with the boot or roller against the
substratetobondwell.thepropaneflameshould
bemovedfromsidetosideandupthelapedge
while the membrane is slowly unrolled and
adheredtothesurface.Subsequentshiftoftheroll
shallbeavoidedafterheatinghasbegun.When
oneendiscomplete,re-rolltheoppositeendnot
yettorched,andinstallinthesamemanner.

Assubsequentrollsareinstalled,heatisappliedto
both the roll and the exposed laps of the
membranebeingoverlappedonto.Besuretoheat
theentirerollevenly,notjustthelapareas,with
extraconcentrationatthelaps.

this will expose the reinforcement and cause
damagetoit.
Sealing
Heat both the overlaps and use round tipped
trowel to seal the overlap. Adequate heat is
confirmedwhenauniformflowofmeltedbitumen
compoundflowsevenlyinabeadthatoozesfrom
theappliedmembranesedges.Excesscompound
shouldbesmoothenedandpressedintotheseam
usingaheatedtrowel.Anyun-bondedareasmust
beliftedandre-torched.Donotattempttoreseal
bytorchingthetopsurfaceofthemembrane.

Flashingdetailsareaccomplishedusingcutpieces
of BitupluS px membrane in combination with
appropriateprefabricatedflashingcomponents.
the same side lap and end lap rules apply to
flashingdetailsastofieldmembrane.
Allanglesandabutmentsshouldbesealedwith
extracaretoensurefullbonding.Anappropriate
flashing membrane (mineral surface) shall be
lappedwiththebasemembraneandtakenupon
theparapetwallandtuckedintoagroovecutinto
theconcrete.thegrooveswillbesealedwitha
suitablemasticsealant(BituMAStiC)*.
