This assignment can be completed in groups but must be submitted individually.
The assignment is divided into two parts.
The total marks for the assignment are 30.
Description of the data set:
The excel file "Loan" contains the annual data extracted from the records of a bank. The
bank maintains the profile of its loan clients. The given dataset provides data on client's
age, whether the client is entrepreneur or not, whether the client is unemployed or
employed, whether the client is married or divorced (if any), whether the client attended
high school or college. The primary variables of interest in the dataset includes information
on balance outstanding on client's account and whether the client has defaulted on loan or
not.
Attributes description:
Attributes Names Description
Client ID Unique identification number for individual client
Loan Default Equals 1 if the client has defaulted or
Equals 0 if the client has not defaulted
Balance Due The amount due on clients account in thousands of dollars
($000)
Age Age of client in years
Entrepreneur Equals 1 if the client is an entrepreneur or
Equals 0 if the client is not an entrepreneur
Unemployed Equals 1 if the client is unemployed or
Equals 0 if the client is employed
Married Equals 1 if the client is currently married or
Equals 0 if the client is currently not married
Divorced Equals 1 if the client is divorced or
Equals 0 if the client is not divorced
High School Equals 1 if the client has attended high school or
Equals 0 if the client has not attended high school
Gender Male or Female

Assignment instructions:

Preliminary task:

Create a new worksheet and name it My Profile. Provide the information regarding your
name, roll number, group number and roll numbers of your group members in the newly
created worksheet:

The filled cells of the worksheet should look like the following:

There are no marks allocated to the preliminary task. However, if the preliminary task is not
correctly done there will a penalty of 5 marks from the assignment total marks.

Part A: (3 marks)
Go to the worksheet titled Data and perform the following tasks:

1. Create a new attribute Age Groups in the first empty column of the 1.5
worksheet (column K). The new attribute, Age Group must have 4
categories i.e. Young, Middle Age, Prime Age and Old Age.

Age Group Range of age (in years)


Young Less than or equal to 25
Middle Age Between 26 to 40 years old (both inclusive)
Prime Age Between 41 to 60 years old (both inclusive)
Old Age 61 years and older
You are required to create an IF statement to fill in the age group entries for
all clients in the data set.

Note: You will have to refer to column B which contains data for age of
clients.

2. Create a new attribute Marital Status in the next empty column of the 1.5
worksheet (column L). The new attribute, Marital Status must take 3 values
ranging from 1 to 3 representing single, married and divorced status

respectively.
- Marital status must equal 3 if the client is divorced i.e. the attribute
divorce equals 1 for the client.
- Marital status must equal 2 if the client is currently married i.e. the
attribute married equals 1 for the client.
- Marital status must equal 1 if the client is neither married nor
divorced i.e. single
You are required to create an IF statement to fill in the age group entries for
all clients in the data set.
Hint: You will have to refer to two other columns in your conditional
statement
Note: The existing data set does not include the data of any client who is
widow/widower.

Part B: (27 marks)


Go to the worksheet titled Summary and perform the following tasks:

For Table A1: (2 marks)
1. In cell C4, input the total number of clients that are included in the dataset. 0.5

2. In cell C5, input the number of clients in the data set who have not defaulted 0.5

3. In cell C6, input the number of clients in the data set who have defaulted (Total 0.5
Defaulters).

to be 100%.
