Transformer Impedance Considerations
The impedance of a transformer has an influence on several
factors that impact how the transformer interacts with the rest of the power system. As the impedance of a transformer decreases the amount of secondary fault current increases. A transformer with an impedance of some 5% will develop twenty times the full load secondary current under short circuit conditions. When full loaded the voltage drop of the secondary should equal the transformers impedance. The voltage drop will vary with the power factor of the load connected to the secondary.
