Whatisthisdrugusedfor?
Itisusedtotreatlowmood(depression).
Itisusedtotreatobsessivecompulsiveproblems.
Itisusedtotreatmoodproblemscausedbymonthlyperiods.
Itisusedtotreateatingproblems.
Itisusedtotreatpanicattacks.
Itmaybegiventoyouforotherreasons.Talkwiththedoctor.

WhatdoIneedtotellmydoctorBEFOREItakethisdrug?
Ifyouhaveanallergytofluoxetineoranyotherpartofthisdrug.
Ifyouareallergictoanydrugslikethisone,anyotherdrugs,foods,orothersubstances.Tellyour
doctorabouttheallergyandwhatsignsyouhad,likerashhivesitchingshortnessofbreath
wheezingcoughswellingofface,lips,tongue,orthroatoranyothersigns.
Ifyouaretakinganyofthesedrugs:Linezolidormethyleneblue.
Ifyouaretakingpimozide.
Ifyouaretakingthioridazine.
Ifyouhavetakencertaindrugsusedforlowmood(depression)likeisocarboxazid,phenelzine,or
tranylcypromineordrugsusedforParkinson'sdiseaselikeselegilineorrasagilineinthelast14days.
Takingthisdrugwithin14daysofthosedrugscancauseverybadhighbloodpressure.Talkwithyour
doctor.
Thisisnotalistofalldrugsorhealthproblemsthatinteractwiththisdrug.

WhataresomethingsIneedtoknowordowhileItakethisdrug?
Tellallofyourhealthcareprovidersthatyoutakethisdrug.Thisincludesyourdoctors,nurses,
pharmacists,anddentists.
Avoiddrivinganddoingothertasksoractionsthatcallforyoutobealertuntilyouseehowthisdrug
affectsyou.
Donotstoptakingthisdrugallofasuddenwithoutcallingyourdoctor.Youmayhaveagreaterriskof
sideeffects.Ifyouneedtostopthisdrug,youwillwanttoslowlystopitasorderedbyyourdoctor.
Avoiddrinkingalcoholwhiletakingthisdrug.
Talkwithyourdoctorbeforeyouuseotherdrugsandnaturalproductsthatslowyouractions.
Ifyouhavehighbloodsugar(diabetes),youwillneedtowatchyourbloodsugarclosely.
Itmaytakeseveralweekstoseethefulleffects.
Thisdrugmayraisethechanceofbleeding.Sometimes,bleedingcanbelifethreatening.Talkwiththe
doctor.
Verybadandsometimesdeadlyreactionsalongwitharashhaverarelyhappenedwiththisdrug.Lung,
kidney,orliverproblemshavealsohappened.Callyourdoctorrightawayifyouhaveachangeinthe
amountofurinepassed,darkurine,nothungry,upsetstomachorstomachpain,lightcoloredstools,
throwingup,yellowskinoreyes,orshortnessofbreath.
Somepeoplemayhaveahigherchanceofeyeproblemswiththisdrug.Yourdoctormaywantyouto
haveaneyeexamtoseeifyouhaveahigherchanceoftheseeyeproblems.Callyourdoctorright
awayifyouhaveeyepain,changeineyesight,orswellingorrednessinoraroundtheeye.
Usewithcareinchildren.Talkwiththedoctor.
Thisdrugmayaffectgrowthinchildrenandteensinsomecases.Theymayneedregulargrowth

Ifyouare65orolder,usethisdrugwithcare.Youcouldhavemoresideeffects.

ofthefollowingsignsorsymptomsthatmayberelatedtoaverybadsideeffect:
Signsofanallergicreaction,likerashhivesitchingred,swollen,blistered,orpeelingskinwithor
withoutfeverwheezingtightnessinthechestorthroattroublebreathingortalkingunusual
hoarsenessorswellingofthemouth,face,lips,tongue,orthroat.
Signsoflowsodiumlevelslikeheadache,troublefocusing,memoryproblems,changeinthinking
clearlyandwithlogic,weakness,seizures,orchangeinbalance.
Signsofbleedinglikethrowingupbloodorthrowupthatlookslikecoffeegroundscoughingupblood
bloodintheurineblack,red,ortarrystoolsbleedingfromthegumsvaginalbleedingthatisnot
normalbruiseswithoutareasonorthatgetbiggeroranybleedingthatisverybadorthatyoucannot
stop.
Verybaddizzinessorpassingout.
Abigweightgainorloss.
Changeinsexability.
Loweredinterestinsex.
Averybadandsometimesdeadlyhealthproblemcalledserotoninsyndromemayhappen.Therisk

maybegreaterifyoutakethisdrugwithdrugsfordepression,migraines,orcertainotherdrugs.Call
yourdoctorrightawayifyouhaveagitationchangeinbalanceconfusionhallucinationsfeverfastor
abnormalheartbeatflushingmuscletwitchingorstiffnessseizuresshiveringorshakingsweatinga
lotverybaddiarrhea,upsetstomach,orthrowinguporverybadheadache.
Callyourdoctorrightawayifyouhaveapainfulerection(hardpenis)oranerectionthatlastsforlonger
than4hours.Thismayhappenevenwhenyouarenothavingsex.Ifthisisnottreatedrightaway,it
mayleadtolastingsexproblemsandyoumaynotbeabletohavesex.

Whataresomeothersideeffectsofthisdrug?
Alldrugsmaycausesideeffects.However,manypeoplehavenosideeffectsoronlyhaveminorside
effects.Callyourdoctororgetmedicalhelpifanyofthesesideeffectsoranyothersideeffectsbother
youordonotgoaway:
Upsetstomach.
Drymouth.
Feelingsleepy.
Dizziness.
Loosestools(diarrhea).
Baddreams.
Notabletosleep.
Feelingtiredorweak.
Flulikesigns.
Yawning.
Thesearenotallofthesideeffectsthatmayoccur.Ifyouhavequestionsaboutsideeffects,callyour
