ax2 + bx + c = 0 (standard form)

Classifications

Complete Quadratic Equation

- If b 0
x2 4x +1 = 0 and 3x2 + 2x - 1 = 0
Pure or Incomplete Quadratic Equation
- If b = 0
x2 4 = 0 and 3x2 + 6 = 0

Solving Quadratic Equation

Extracting the Square Root

- Use the Square Root Property
- If x2 = n, then x = or x = -
Factoring
- Use the zero factor property
- The product of AB = 0, if A = 0 or B = 0 or both A and B are equal
to zero.
Completing the square
- This method is required when the quadratic equation cannot be
factored.

- Produce a perfect square trinomial (PST ) = 22
- Then use the Square Root Property to solve the Equation.
Quadratic Formula
2 4
- =
2

Discriminant (Nature of Roots)

- the discrimant (D) can be used to determinethe number of real number

solutions to a quadratic equaton.

- Let D = b2 4ac
- If D > 0, Real and Unqual
- If D = 0, Real and Equal
- If D < 0, Not Real
Sum and Product of Roots

- The sum of the roots of ax2 + bx + c = 0 (S1+S2) is,

- The product of the roots of ax2 + bx + c = 0 (S1S2) is,

- x2 - (S1+S2)x + (S1S2) = 0

Quadratic Inequalities
- one expression in one variables which can be expressed in the form ax2 + bx +
c>0

Properties

- A product is positive
- A product is Negative

Solving Quadratic Inequalities Methods

Case Exploration
- Considering all the possible cases
Inspection of Science
- Transform the given inequalities in the form ax2 + bx + c > 0 and ax2
+ bx + c < 0, respectively. Then, factor them. Equate each linear
factor to find neutral numbers. These are the numbers that make
the linear factor 0.
The Parabola Method
- Identify the vertex and the x-intecepts.

Quadratic function
- A function f is a quadratic function defined by

f(x) = ax2 + bx + c = 0 {standard form}

y = a (x-h)2 + k

h = x intercept

k = y intercept

Graph = parabola
- The parabola is the curve formed from all the points (x, y) that are equidistant
from the directrix and the focus.

Quadratic to Vertex

- To convert a quadratic from y = ax2 + bx + c form to vertex form,

y = a(x - h)2+ k, you use the process of completing the square.

Vertex to Quadratic

- To convert equation to standard form simply expand and simplify

the binomial square.

Find an equation for the points

- Substitute the coordinates of these points into the basic form.

Graph the Equation

- Find the points. Plot all the other points. You draw a nicely smooth
curving line passing neatly through the plotted points:

Reflection:

As we end our lesson, something comes to our mind, that Math never
glued on the board it is always use in our everyday lives. Not exactly we
always solve Math equations, but the lesson behind that. The willingness to
learn and accept your flaws and whole heartedly repeat over and over
again until we get the right answer. We learned that, Math helps us literally.
