First Edition of ABU International Television Dance Festival Held in Hyderabad


i. The first edition of the ABU International Television Dance Festival (AIDF) organized by
the Asia-Pacific Broadcasting Union (ABU) was held in Hyderabad from January 13 to
January 15, 2017.
ii. Objective: To create a bridge between young people from different parts of the
world through dance.
iii The festival was inaugurated by the Union Information & Broadcasting Minister M Venkaiah
Naidu while the Chief Minister of Telangana, K. ChandrashekarRao was the guest of honour.

T-Hub Collaborates with Esri India for GIS Innovation Hub


i. Telangana based Indias largest incubator for start-ups, T-Hub has launched a GIS
Innovation Hub (GIH) in collaboration with Esri India on January 23, 2017 for the start-ups
belonging to the capital Hyderabad.
ii. Esri India is countrys leading Geographic Information System (GIS) software and solutions
provider. The facility was inaugurated by Jack Dangermond, co-founder, president and CEO of
EsriInc.

UberMOTO launches service in Hyderabad


i. American worldwide online transportation network company Uber has launched two-wheeler
aggregation service UberMOTO by Uber Founder and CEO Travis Kalanick in Hyderabad on
January 30, 2017
ii. UberMOTO can hire two-wheelers for short-distance commute at cheaper rates to provide the
last-mile connectivity from and to the upcoming Metro railway stations.

Telanagana Government Signs MoU with Civil Aviation Ministry for Regional
Connectivity Scheme
i. The Telangana government has signed a MoU with the Ministry of Civil Aviation and Airports
Authority of India on January 11, 2017 under the Regional Connectivity Scheme (RCS) for air
connectivity by developing small airports and airstrips in the state.
ii. The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was between Civil Aviation Minister Ashok
GajapathiRaju and Telangana Minister for IT and industries K T Rama Rao in New Delhi.

Telangana Government signs MoU to set up Aero Skill Academy


i. The Telangana government on January 27, 2017 signed a Memorandum of
Understanding (MoU) with French Aero campus Aquitaine to set up a world-class aero skills
academy in the city in collaboration with academia and industry of the state.
ii. The MoU was signed between Jerome Verschave, General Manager, Aerocampus and Jayesh
Ranjan, Secretary IT, Telangana.

Telangana and Assam Joins UDAY Scheme


i. Assam and Telangana signed a pact with the Power Minister, PiyushGoyal to join
the UDAY scheme on January 4, 2017 in New Delhi in a bid to improve the performance of state
run power distribution companies (DISCOM).
ii. Since the launch of the UDAY Scheme, the Power Ministry has signed Agreements with 18
states to join the Scheme.

National Career Services (NCS) and Jeevan Praman Facility for EPFO Pensioners
Launched in Hyderabad Post Office
i. The Union Minister of State for Labour and Employment Bandaru Dattatreya launched
the National Career Service (NCS) for youths and Jeevan Praman facility to EPFO
pensioners through Post Offices at DakSadan in Hyderabad on February 12, 2017.
ii. The Post Offices will serve as an Employment Registration Centres for Unemployed rural
youth on behalf of the National Career Service Portal where youths can register themselves
for employment in 1,55,000 post offices established across the country for over 3000 occupations
offered under 52 sectors in NCS
iii. It would build a bridge between the net connected urban areas and non connected rural areas
and help the youth to avail facility to register for employment at their doorstep hassle-free and
have access to a rich repository of career content.

Indias first social innovation centre Launched in Nizamabad by Telanagana Government


i. The Telangana government launched Indias first social innovation centre the Kakatiya Hub
For Social Innovation in Nizamabad on February 6, 2017.
ii .The launch was announced at the one-day Development Dialogue, an international social
entrepreneurship ecosystem conference hosted by Kakatiya Sandbox.
iii. The social hub has been funded by the Telangana government and will be implemented
Through Kakatiya Sandbox which is a centre that encourages entrepreneurship and innovation
modelled after Deshpande Foundations Hubli Sandbox.

Rajasthan, Telangana bag eGov awards


i. Rajasthan and Telangana are bagged the eGovernance awards for Excellence under the
state category at the CSI -NihilenteGovernance Awards held in Coimbatore on January 31, 2017.
ii. Odisha and Nagaland bagged the Award of Recognition for the year 2016
iii. eGovernance Awards are Instituted by the Computer Society of Indias (CSI) Special Interest
Group with sponsorship from Nihilent Technologies

GMR Hyderabad Airport Receives CAPA Order of Merit


i. GMR Hyderabad International Airport Ltd (GHIAL), which operates Rajiv Gandhi
International Airport, has been honored with the Centre for Asia Pacific Aviation (CAPA)
Chairmans Order of Merit for its focus on environmental sustainability.
ii. Rajiv Gandhi International Airport was also awarded for becoming the first airport in Asia
Pacific to become carbon neutral.
iii. GHIAL received the award during the CAPA 12 Annual India Aviation Summit held in
Mumbai on February 8, 2017.

Airbus signs MoU for setting up centre of excellence in Hyderabad


The multinational Airbus Group division Airbus joined hand
with Telangana government, National Skill Development
Corporation India and AEROCAMPUS France for establishing a Centre of Excellence at
at Begumpet Airport for aerospace skill development in Hyderabad
Objective: To enhance the employability of young aspirants by imparting the required skills to
them
Highlights of the Centre
i. To train candidates ranging from high school graduates to experienced aviation personnel on
aircraft manufacturing, logistics, Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul (MRO), ground handling and
special aviation processes
ii. To offer short-term refresher modules as well as long-term certificate and diploma courses that
will find acceptability within the industry
iii. To provide training on aerospace manufacturing and assembling

Noted bureaucrat V. K. Srinivasan passes away


i. Noted bureaucrat, columnist and director of the Institute of Economic Studies, V. K.
Srinivasan was passed away in Hyderabad. He was 76.
ii. Srinivasan is a 1963-batch IAS officer, he was known for his outspokenness, and had played in
league division in Cricket in Chennai, the then Madras State.

iii. He served as Collector of Karimnagar and Anantapur districts and also served in Ministry of

Ninth Gurkhas Observes its 200 years of Raising in Secunderabad


i. The Ninth Gorkhas celebrated 200-years of its raising in Secunderabad, Telangana on March
16, 2017.
ii. The first battalion of the Ninth Gorkhas was raised by the British government in 1817 as
the Fatehgarh Levy.
iii. Ninth Gorkha Rifles has a unique honour that all its battalions have been awarded the Chief of
Army Staffs Citation for exceptional performance in the line of duty.

ESIC launched Mobile Clinic Services in AP, Telangana


Andhra Pradesh and Telengana get Indias first Mobile Clinic Service which is launched
by Employees State Insurance Corporation (ESIC). This service is flagged off by The
Union Minister for Labor and Employment, Bandaru Dattareya.
Facilities in Mobile Clinic
i. Each clinic will have a vehicle with a Doctor, pharmacist, attendant, driver and the necessary
equipment and medicines.
ii. The vehicle will visit two locations in a day for three hours each and conduct basic
investigations.

Telangana Finance Minister Presents Revenue Surplus Budget Estimate 2017-18


The Telangana State Finance Minister Etala Rajender presented the budget estimate
of Rs. 1,49,646-crore for 2017-18 on March 13, 2017 in the state assembly.
The Rs 4,471.30 crore revenue surplusbudget mainly focuses on the development and
welfare measures.
The 2017-18 budget is Rs 15 lakh crore morewhen compared to Rs 130 lakh crore in the
2016-17 Budget.
Salient Features of the Budget
The 2017-18 budget is based on uniform system of accounting and not on classification of
expenditure into plan and non-plan.
The Gross State Domestic Product (GSDP)growth at constant prices in 2016-17 is likely
to be 10.1 percent as against expected national GDP growth of 7.1 per cent
States Per Capita Incomein 2016-17 is estimated to increase to Rs 1,58,360 from Rs
1,40,683 in 2015-16. This is significantly higher than national average of Rs 1,03,818.

Committed expenditure in 2017-18 has been pegged at Rs 61,607.20 crore while


the Revenue Expenditure at Rs 50,954.61 crore
Expenditure under Pragati Paddu(expenditure on schemes) is Rs 88,038.80 crore.
States own revenue receipts are proposed at Rs. 69,220.37 crore in BE 2017-18 as

Indian Science Congress To Be Held At Osmania University, Hyderabad


i. As per the information given by the officials of Indian Science Congress Association
(ISCA), 105th Indian Science Congress is to be hosted by Osmania University (OU),
Hyderabad from January 3 to 7 next year.
ii. This is the sixth time; Osmania University (OU) will be hosting this congress. In the mean
time, University is celebrating its centenary (100th) this year.

Hyderabad Airport Gains 1st Rank Worldwide in Airport Service Quality Survey
i. GMR led Hyderabad International Airport Limited (GHIAL) has secured first position in the
world in the prestigious Airports Council International (ACI)-Airport Service Quality (ASQ)
survey in the 5-15 million passengers per annum (MPPA) category for the year 2016.
ii .Hyderabad Airport has steadily improved its score from 4.4 in 2009 to 4.9 in 2016 measured on
scale of 1 to 5.
iii. Besides, the Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGIA) in Delhi has been ranked worlds
second best airport in the category of passenger handling capacity of more than 40 million
passengers annually.

Water sharing between Andhra Pradesh and Telangana KRMB to look after the issue
The issue in sharing of water from river Krishna between Andhra Pradesh and Telangana is to be
looked after by Krishna River Management Board (KRMB) as informed by Minister of state for
Water Resources and River Development and Ganga Rejuvenation, Dr Sanjeev Kumar Balyan in
Lok Sabha.
The Central government has constituted the Krishna River Management Board (KRMB) to look
into the issue.

Role of Krishna River Management Board (KRMB)


The main role of KRMB will be issuing water release orders from time to time based on ad-hoc
arrangement.
The order must be accepted by Telangana and Andhra Pradesh for sharing Krishna river water.
The final allocation is to be made by the Krishna Water Dispute Tribunal -II.

Telangana Archaeologists Find World's Largest Capstone


i. The world's largest capstone has been discovered by the Archaeology Department of
Telangana on March 21, 2017, after excavating an ancient human burial site in Narmeta village,
Siddipet district.
ii. The capstone weighing 40 tonnes was so huge that required large crane to lift it.

Cabinet approves signing of Agreement for CIRDAP establishment Centre in Hyderabad


The Agreement was signed between Indian Ministry of Rural Development and Centre on
Integrated Rural Development for Asia and the Pacific (CIRDAP). The CIRDAP centre will be
setup at National Institute of Rural Development and Panchayati Raj (NIRD&PR),
Hyderabad.
Objective: Promote integrated rural development in member countries through research,
training and information dissemination

Rajiv Gandhi International Airport in Hyderabad to go 100 per cent LED-lit
The Rajiv Gandhi International Airport in Hyderabad has become South Indias first
airport to go 100% LED-lit.
i. The airport currently caters to more than 15 Million Passengers annually with close to 400 daily
air traffic movements.

ii. Out of the 26,000 conventional lamps, more than 19,500 have been converted into LED, saving

Jaitley inaugurates Telangana solar plant, Karna windmill


Defence Minister Arun Jaitley has inaugurated a solar power plant of 16 MW capacity at the
Ordinance Factory in Telanganas Medak on 30 th May, 2017
i. The solar power plant at Medak has been set up at a cost of Rs 105 crore by Bharat
Electronics Limited.
ii. A9 MW capacity windmill project has installed at Dammur in Karnataka at a cost of Rs 53 crore
by BEML.
iii. Jaitley has also presented an excellence awards to various defence PSUs.
iv. The excellence award in the institutional category for 2014-15 was given to
Bharat Dynamics Limited, Hyderabad.
v. The award for 2015-16 was conferred on Hindustan Aeronautics Limited, Bengaluru.
vi. The best performance award in exports for 2014-15 was given to Goa Shipyard Limited
while
vii. The award for 2015-16 was conferred on Bharat Electronics Limited, Bengaluru.

Telangana first state to have logo for vehicles driven by persons with hearing
impairment
Telangana is the first state to introduce a logo for identifying vehicles driven by persons with
hearing impairment.
i. The logo is designed by the Hyderabad-based graphic designer Manikanta Annapragada. He
is the first person to obtain a driving license in the hearing impaired category.

International Permaculture conference to be held in Hyderabad


The 13th International Permaculture Convergence (IPC) experts will be held on November 27
to December 2, 2017 in Hyderabad
i. The theme of IPC is 'Towards healthy societies'.
ii. It is being organized by Hyderabad-based environmental and developmental NGO Aranya
Agricultural Alternatives.
iii. The IPC team will host a crowd funding activity on milaap.org from May 3 till July 1, 2017.

First Videsh Sampark held in Telangana


First outreach programme of the Ministry of External Affairs, Videsh Sampark was hosted
in Telangana. The conference was held on May 13, 2017 in Hyderabad. It was inaugurated
by Gen. V.K. Singh - Minister of State for External Affairs.
i. The objective of Videsh Sampark conference is to involve State Governments in creating
awareness on the schemes and initiatives launched by Ministry of External Affairs pertaining to
consular and passport services, engagement with overseas Indians, and welfare and protection of
overseas Indians.
ii. During this Videsh Sampark conference, Telangana also became first state in India where
Ministry of External Affairs pilot 'e-Sanad' project for online attestation of documents was
rolled out.

Telangana government to launch its own 'T-Wallet'


T-Wallet, the official digital wallet of Telangana State was launched on June 1, 2017
by Telangana IT Minister K.T. Rama Rao.
i. T Wallet is available as an Any Time, Any Where digital payment option for everyone.
ii. It has been integrated with various Government departments and services such as Mee Seva,
GHMC, HMWSSB, TSNPDCL, TSSPDCL, RTA.
iii. It supports Telugu & Urdu besides English.There is no service charge for using T
Wallet.
iv. T Wallet uses two factor authentication through Aadhaar + Biometric or Aadhaar + OTP to
Aadhaar linked mobile number, for feature phone and no phone users.

Telangana CM announces 6-point comprehensive plan for farmers


During the occasion of State Formation Day , Telangana Chief Minister Chandrasekhar Rao has
announced 6-point comprehensive plan for farmers on June 2nd 2017 in Secunderabad.
i. The plans include the following points
1.8 thousand rupees cash assistance per acre per annum to each farmer in the state.
2.24/7 continuous electricity supply.
3.Formation of crop colonies and support price for their yield.
ii. He also announced other welfares such as thousand rupees social security pension for single
destitute women.
iii. The state government is going to implement in coming days like the Chief Minister further
announced 15 thousand rupees assistance to mother and child which includes KCR Kits worth
two thousand rupees to take care of their nutrition and health needs.

Incubation centre for biotech start-ups to be set up at CCMB, Hyderabad


An incubation centre for biotechnology start-ups is to be set up at the CSIR-Centre for
Cellular and Molecular Biology in Hyderabad, Telangana
i. It will be supported by the NITI Aayog and will create facilities and bring in stakeholders to
ensure the success of innovative ideas.
ii. The Centre has set up the Atal Incubation Centre in the NITI Aayog to promote a
culture of innovation and entrepreneurship.
iii. The CCMB is one of the 10 organisations identified to host the Atal Incubation Centre.Under
this, the government will release funds of Rs 10 crore in the coming five years.

Telangana launches single-woman pension scheme, first in India


On June 4, 2017, Telangana State Government launched single-woman pension
scheme across the state, thereby becoming the first state in India to launch such scheme.
i. Under this scheme, Telangana State Govt. will provide 1,000 financial assistance per month
to single women. The beneficiaries would get the pension in their bank accounts every month.
ii. Officials have identified 108302 beneficiaries in 31 districts.
iii. This scheme will benefit unmarried women, joginis and divorced women.

Telangana launches Pashu Bazar website for online Cattle sale


The farmers of Telangana will soon be able to sell and purchase cattle online.
i .The state government has launched a website to facilitate this service.
ii. The special Chief Secretary of Animal Husbandry, Suresh Chanda has launched the
website and it is developed with NICs support.
iii. The online sale or purchase of cattle through pashubazar.telangana.gov.in
iv. The website will help farmers as the cattle need not be brought to shandies every time.

Veteran Telugu Poet, Writer C Narayana Reddy Passes Away


Legendary Telugu poet and writer C Narayana Reddy passed away in Hyderabad on June 12,
2017. He was 85.
i. He had several publications to his credit which include poems, songs, lyrical dramas, ballets,
essays, travelogues, ghazals - original and in translation - and literary criticism.
ii. He was passionate about preserving and popularising Telugu language and culture, especially
among the young generation.His works have been regarded as trend-setters.
iii. He was honoured with Padma Shri in 1977 and Padma Bhushan in 1992 by Government

of India.
iv. He had received the Jnanpith Award for the year 1988.

Congress MP Palvai Govardhan Reddy dies


Congress leader and Rajya Sabha member from Telangana PalvaiGovardhan
Reddy has died on 10th of June. He was 80.
i .He was suffering from a cardiac arrest near Kullu in Himachal Pradesh.
ii. A five-time MLA in Andhra Pradesh before the bifurcation of the state, Reddy, elected to the
Rajya Sabha in 2012, was a member of several committees.
