Processing Data in Processing

Manager
Created by Catriona Rollason [QPS], last modified by Dymphke van der Geer [QPS] on 2015-04-16

With the release of QINSy 8.10.2014.07.09.1 you can now filter and clean your data directly in the QINSy Processing Manager. The 3D editor can also now be
used for manually cleaning spikes or data points. The following document describes how to do this.

Please note; the 3D editor requires a Qloud Add-on on the QINSy dongle.

5. Once you have chosen your selection Click Next and select the filter you wish to run over the surface from the drop down menu.

Depending on your selection of filter the relevant boxes will be activated. You can quickly customise your filter by selecting another attribute and
adding the settings for that. See the end of this section for more information on the filters.

6. The final step is click on Filter, this will run your cleaning profile over the surface and update the Navigation surface. Once the filter has finished running,
click finish.

* The Refraction filter that used to be listed in Qloud still exists but is no longer listed as a filter as it is technically a correction.
**A Sounding is Flagged if x > a + (b * d) where x= the distance from surface, a=portion of uncertainty that doesnt change with depth, b= a
coefficient which represents the portion of uncertainty that does value with depth and d= water depth

Creating your own Cleaning Profile.

1. Click the Filter button on the Processing Tab.

2. You can create your custom filters by changing the options that are by default selected for each cleaning profile. Click the Save Button to create your
custom cleaning profile

3. Give the new filter a new name and description and click OK.

4. Follow the steps in the section above to run your filter, it will be added to the bottom of the filter list.
5. Make sure to test your filter on a small area before continuing and make any adjustments to the filter if required.

Additional Filters

In addition to the filters mentioned above you have the option to apply block shifts to you data using the Shift Data button or to apply a refraction
correction where the sound velocity is not quite right.

Shift Data
1. To use the shift data button select it from the Processing tab.

2. You will then be faced by the same wizard that has been used with the other filters.
3. Select the area or file on which you wish to perform the block shift.

4. You then have a further three options, to reset all point positions, to apply a shift to the data or both.

5. The Final screen will give you a summary of operations, click filter to start the operation.

Refraction Filter

For more information on the Refraction filter please see Refraction Correction page of the 'Qloud cleaning methods'.

1. Start the Refraction filter wizard by selecting the refraction icon

2. The first page of the wizard again give you the option to select where the filter will be applied

3. The next page of the wizard again gives you the option to apply a Refraction correction in m/s and to Reset all points position.

4. The final screen will give you a summary of the operation before you apply the shift.

Cleaning Data points using the 3D Editor

1. Using the Select tool under the Home Tab or right mouse click in 2D view, chose the area that you wish to clean, ensuring Survey Files have selected in
the Project Explorer.

2. Select the Processing Tab and then the 3D editor. When the 3D Editor button is greyed out, it means you don't have the Qloud add-on or it means you
did not have selected an area.

3. The 3D Editor will open with the points from the selected area.

Display Settings & Control Bar

1. By default the soundings are colored by depth. To change this alter the Color By option in the Control bar.
2. The point size can also be adjusted here (both of these options will be used later on to help determine features from noise)

3. Be aware of the vertical exaggeration when cleaning, as this can have an impact on how your data looks, it is adjusted every time the shoalest or
deepest points are removed

4. To customize the display settings select the Display Menu, here you can turn on and off the background grid, turn on and off the widgets and select the
options visible on the widgets. Changing these settings can make it easier to visualize the points.

5. To improve 3D Editor performance, select the Soundings Tab from the Editor Panels change the "Normal" Soundings Shape and Rejected Soundings
shape to "Point"

If you cannot see the Editor Panel click ctrl+1 or select the Options menu and tick the Editor Panels option

6. Changing the Rejected soundings to white will make them stand out better than the default red. To do this change the Color By into "Color" and select
the white from the Select Color window.

To View the Rejected Soundings click Rejected box in the control bar

7. You can save the current interface for future use by going to the Options Menu and selecting save the current interface.

Cleaning Data
1. Before manual cleaning, change the soundings attribute color into "Color by File" to ensure important contact information is preserved.

2. Use the Select , Area Select , or Record Select Mode to select points. Selected points are marked with cross hairs as in the example
below.

3. If you find you have selected points in error the Clear option in the control bar will undo the selection if needed.

4. Once you have selected the points use either the D key or the Reject button in the control bar to flag the points as Rejected.

5. These points will then become hidden. If you find that you have deleted too many points you can turn on the Rejected points in the Control Bars display
options, the select tools and Unreject button can then be used to remove the rejected flag. This will make the sounding visible (when rejected is switched
off again) and will change the color of the point back to the original shade.

6. When working on steep slopes or complicated areas like wrecks use the Slice tool from the Control Bar to view a smaller sub-sample of the points that
are loaded in the 3D Editor. Click Start to enter slice-editing mode.

7. While in slice-editing mode, use the arrows to move between slices, the slider will also give you an indication of how far through the loaded data you are.
Once finished click Stop to exit Slice mode and return to the full data set.

8. Go to File > Save and Exit. The 3D Editor will close, the updates will be applied to the QPD files in the QINSy project and the Navigation Surface will be
automatically rebuilt
