DQ1)During a diversity management session, a manager suggests that
stereotypes are a necessary part of working with others. "I have to make
assumptions about what's in the other person's head, and stereotypes help me
do that, she explains. "It's better to rely on stereotypes than to enter a
working relationship with someone from another culture without any idea of
what they believe in! Discuss the merits of and problems with the manager's
statement.

Yes,I agree that stereotypes are indispensable part of working with others in business
organisations.

According to Nittle Kareem Nadra(2017)

Stereotypes means simplify conception or an opinion about the persons belonging to a


particular culture or country on the basis of caste,race,religion and gender.

In simple terms,it means an idea about the individual characteristics on the basis of
their different attributes.It means presumption about a particular group of a persons
belonging to same or different nationality.It creates an image of an individual by
analysing according to their charactersitics.

Types of Stereotypes: 1.Positive

2.Negative

3.Neutral

Above,these types of stereotypes have their own advantages and disadvantages.

For eg.In business world,the person belonging to age above 30 is considered as most
efficient and of dynamic personality because of the generation of more profits to the
company due to their more learning experiences.Having the attainment of skills and
knowledge frames the stereotypes of the persons holding the age above 30.

According to Slinger Beth(2012)

Merits of the Stereotypes are:

Stereotypes helps the managers to anticipate the social world.It helps to


evaluate and organise the business in a simple way by judging on the available
information.It simplifies the facts regarding particular group of persons.
Stereotypes hepls the manager to take quick decisions on the basis of current
situations.It enables the managers in fast judgement process and helps in
saving of time regarding circumstances.
Stereotypes helps to categorise the persons in to group according to their
behaviour,skill and talents.Depending on the requirement,the managers employ
or terminate the persons.It also focus on the differences between the group of
the persons or the categories.
Stereotypes improves the persons self esteem and also protect from the
castration anxiety.
Stereotypes enables the managers to frame an opinion about the coworkers and
customer despite of having little or no information.
Stereotypes helps the business to become more profitable and competitive by
employing the persons on the basis of their skills and talents
