Putting the “fun” back into Horses

April 2010 Newsletter

Next Meeting: Tuesday, April 27, 2010, at The Stanley Tavern, at 7:30.

Minutes from March Meeting

The meeting started at 7: 30 PM, with 23 members and 4 guests present. The minutes were read with 2 errors. The first error
was the discussion about the High Point trophy members and non members were mixed up. The second error was the list of
show classes. It was not a class list but possible year end qualifying classes. Corrections were accepted by Kathy, and
seconded by Tara.

TREASURER’S REPORT: Balance is $3, 768.48.

COMMUNICATIONS: OAS March Dinner and Tack sale will be March 28. The
T h e S ta n le y
Pumpkinfest seminar will be April 5. The Neil Mcleod Clinic is June 12th and 13th.

SPORTS: Everything is in order and just waiting for the season to start.
H o te l
Highway 588
SHOW: Laura Gray is no longer able to direct the shows this year. Tammy has replaced
her, and Tara will help the day of the show. Everything for the show has been covered, and
Home of the
the programs have been done by Tammy and Tara. Kathy has a suggestion for a judge Famous
and will discuss with Tammy at a later time.
"STANLEY BURGER"
PUBLICITY: Brochures and posters have been made and hung up at a variety of places.
Open 7 days a week
Shannon has posters for individual events such as shows, trail rides, etc. Shannon has 12 Noon to 1 a.m.
tried to contact different places to set up a display and currently Arthur Street Mall has
agreed. She would like the display to have a variety of photos of different albums and hope Kakabeka, Falls, ON
to have a membership drive. There is no cost for our display since we are a non-profit
organization.

YOUTH: The hats and T-shirts have been ordered and hope to have them available in time to sell at the April 10th dance. Also, please
bring donations for the dance.

OLD BUSINESS: We have 2 motions to vote on. The first motion was that if in a case that we only have one show, should the High Point
winner for that show happen to be a non-member, should the Year End High Point trophy be given out to a member. 18 members were in
favour and 5 members opposed. The motion was passed, therefore the next member in good standing, who is in succession will be
awarded the trophy.
Second motion was to have a sanctioned MBRA barrel run at the end of our gymkhanas, which we are only allowed to have two. The
members vote unanimous in favour.

The Arab club will have 6 classes in our show.

The June 6th show will have 2 divisions in the driving classes, which will be open and miniature.

The paint club would like to have their own classes in our show as well. Unfortunately, we do not have enough time or room to
accommodate them in our program and since they are stock horses, they can show in the open
classes.

The Gaited Club also has classes in our show and they are able to collect their points.

NEW BUSINESS: OAS will not give us permission to use their kitchen. This will result in Certified Horseman
a loss of revenue and we hope to make it up in fundraising. OAS will run their kitchen Association
for our events. It is possible that perhaps LLHA will be able to put up their own building Level 2 English &
for a kitchen. LLHA will attend their next meeting to clarify any misunderstanding Western Coach
between the two clubs.
OAS has requested that we collect our garbage and put it into the barn at the end of all Experience in Hunter,
of our events, volunteers are needed for this duty. Western Pleasure,
Our first gymkhana is fast approaching and we are still searching for our LLHA flags that
Saddle Seat, Hunter
are needed for our opening ceremonies.
Lisa Vanlenthe would like to take pictures at our events again this year. We have Over Fences, Gymkhana
hopes for a LLHA fundraising calendar using her photos. & Trail.
Kathy has found some old newsletters, charity letters, constitution, etc. Frank will
photocopy anything he doesn’t already have and will return them to Kathy.
The rules were reviewed. There was mention of changing the Pole Bending rule.. The new rule would be that we would be able to
steady the pole, the same we can steady the barrels. 3 members were in favour, and 20 members opposed, therefore we will leave the
rule as it stands.
It was suggested that LLHA could hold a yard sale and all proceeds would go the club. Members can donate items and we could
run this fundraiser during our event.

Meeting was adjourned at 8:53 PM.

A TRIBUTE TO MY GUY

MAY 29, 1983 - MARCH 16, 2010

YOUR FARRIER SAID YOU WERE THE EVER BEST HORSE TO DO.
SO MY GUY TIL WE MEET AGAIN HAPPY TRAILS UP IN THE BIG BLUE SKY WE WILL MISS YOU.

CINDY AND RAY

Dear Cindy and Ray,

LLHA would like to extend our condolences. The loss of a horse is much like the loss of a best friend or a confidant. Always remember, the
time spent in the saddle and the memories you share will never be lost or forgotten, but forever remembered not only by yourself, but by
those around you as well.

As I write this I am in tears myself. I lost my mare of 16 years on March 23. Some may not remember Bambi, for I retired her from
gymkhanas in the mid 90’s. She was MY first horse, my teacher and my best friend. She looked after me on the trails for years and I took
care of her to the end. Although I have 3 fantastic horses in the pasture, I still find it difficult to take another on a trail ride.
I would like to thank everyone who gave me their condolences, thoughts, stories and encouragement.
I would also like to take this chance to thank my family. To my Mom, Carol Soltys, who dropped everything and rushed over to my house to
see Bambi the second she got the news. My wish was to bury her at my Mom’s so she could rest beside all of her old pasture mates who
passed before her. Mom did not waste a second and made sure the necessary equipment was ready for her burial the very next day. My
husband Matthew, I thank you for being there for Bam, when I couldn’t. I cannot express the gratitude I have that you were the one who
took care of her during her final moments. As difficult as she was, I’m assured she was at peace with you. Dianne McParland, you never
hesitate to help. When called upon, you never let our family down. Thank you for all your assistance that day, for I know it was a difficult
one. Again, thank you to all my friends, family, and LLHA members who expressed their condolences and especially the Jurcik family for
the beautiful card.
Terri-Lynn (Soltys) Yerxa
