OPERATION
The side impact airbag control module (SIACM) controls the seat back mounted airbags.
If the SIACM determines the impact is severe enough, the appropriate airbag/s will inflate,
tearing open the front seat back trim cover/s protecting the passenger/s. Once a seat
back mounted airbag has been deployed, all damaged parts must be replaced.
dipasang. Jika SIACM menentukan benturan cukup parah, airbag terdekat akan mengembang,
merobek lapisan kursi depan sesaat, kemudian kembali melindungi penumpang. Setelah kursi
OPERATION
Two single armature permanent magnet reversible motors are coupled through cables to
worm gear box assemblies. They are located in the seat tracks and upper supports. The
two single gear motor assemblies attach to the seat tracks provide the various seat
movements.
The electrical circuit is protected by a 20 amp circuit breaker located on the Junction Block
and a 40 amp fuse in the Power Distribution Center.
DESCRIPTION
A potentiometer is mounted to each seat motor to provide a sense voltage to the MHSMM
that will indicate where the actual seat position is.
OPERATION
This sense voltage is derived from a 5-volt source provided by the module to the potentiometer.
The MHSMM reads this sense voltage and stores it if required.
The
OPERATION
Activating any seat switch will move the seat in the corresponding direction. The
MHSMM will drive a maximum of two motors at a time in a given direction. If conflicting
directions are requested, the priorities for responses are as follows:

CIRCUIT BREAKER
Find correct circuit breaker on fuse block. Pull out slightly but be sure that circuit breaker
terminals still contact terminals in fuse block. Connect ground wire of voltmeter to a good
ground. With probe of voltmeter positive wire, check both terminals of cir- cuit breaker for
battery voltage. If only one terminal checks at battery voltage, circuit breaker is defective and
must be replaced. If neither terminal shows bat- tery voltage, check for open or shorted circuit
to cir- cuit breaker.
ACTIVATION
The Power Seat Switch Diagnostic Test can only be activated by sending the proper PCI bus
command via the DRB lll scan tool to enter diagnostic test number 2.
Upon activation of the test the operator has ten seconds to activate all
switches, manual seat switches - all 8 directions, 3 memory switches, and both driver
and passenger heat HI and LO requests, but not including the mirrors.
At the conclusion on the ten-second period, the MHSMM can be requested to provide both
Pass/Fail test information. A Pass condition occurs only if all the switches are activated. If
any of the switches are not activated, Fail will be registered.
Should a Fail condition occur, the individual switch information could be accessed using the
proper com- mands on the DRB lll scan tool.

MEMORY SEATS
TABLE OF CONTENTS
OPERATION
The MHSMM system allows the driver to adjust the seat, both driver and passenger side
mirrors, and the radio stations to his/her preference and store them in memory. There
are two memory locations available for two driver positions to be stored. The module will
also allow either of the two positions to be recalled upon request.
The MHSMM reads all seat switch inputs and operates the seat motors according to
which switch is being actuated. The MHSMM monitors position sens- ing potentiometers
(mounted on the motors) for seat track positioning.
The MHSMM uses solid state drivers (electronic switches) to control motor activation for
both driver and passenger side mirrors. Each mirror has vertical and horizontal motors, that
contain potentiometers used to located the actual mirror position for recall purposes. Normal
electrical operation of the mirrors is accomplished by actuating the power mirror switch and
doesnt require the use of the module.
The MHSMM monitors the memory switches and has the capability to store desired
positions in mem- ory in response to a valid input sequence. Refer to Memory Selector
Switches (1, 2, and S) and Remote Keyless Entry (RKE). The memory heated seat and
10
mirror module will activate the seat and mirror motors in response to a recall request
from an indi- vidual memory switch. The positioning of the motors is determined by the
potentiometer values stored in memory.
The module operates the seat motors through relays: four dedicated to track horizontal
forward/ rearward, front vertical up/down, rear vertical up/down, and
recliner forward/rearward. A fifth relay controls the direction of operation of these motors.
GLIDE FEATURE
DESCRIPTION
The MHSMM shall incorporate a seat glide fea- ture. When exiting the vehicle and
the ignition switch is removed, the glide feature will then acti- vate.
OPERATION
This feature will allow easier entry and exit to the vehicle by moving the seat rearward a
short distance when the operator leaves the vehicle and returning the seat to its original
position when the vehicle operator returns and turns the ignition ON or extends their
seat belt.
OPERATION
The proper procedure of setting and recalling a memory position using the memory
switches is as fol- lows:
(1) Adjust the seat, recliner and side view mirrors to the desired position.
(2) Press momentarily and release memory switch S.
(3) Press momentarily and release memory switch 1 or 2.
(4) To program the second drivers position, repeat the above procedure using the
remaining memory switch.
(5) To recall either of the programmed positions momentarily press and release either
memory selec- tor switch 1 or 2.
The memory selector switches are mounted on the cushion cover side shield of the driver
eat within easy reach of the driver. They provide a means to set and recall either of the
two positions of seat and recliner, and the side view mirror as chosen by the driver.

Key to wiring diagram for memory power seats (picture 8/1 8/2)
Electric car seats are not only convenient, but they are also pretty simple to use. Some are constructed so that
they have simple functions such as moving back and forth, so that the distance to and from the pedals can be
adjusted, while other car seat functions are more sophisticated and allow the operator to not only adjust the
distance to the pedals, but also adjust the lumbar support. In addition, some electric car seats are equipped with
heaters so that starting your car on a cold morning doesn't have to be a jarring experience when you sit on a cold
seat. The construction of electric seats varies, depending on their functions and how many things they can do.
The power seat system option allows the front seating positions to be electrically adjusted for optimum
control and comfort using the power seat switches located on the outboard seat cushion side shield.
The power seat system allows the seating position to be adjusted forward, rearward, front up, front
down, rear up, or rear down. The power seat system receives battery current through a fuse in the
Power Distribution Center and a circuit breaker in the junction block regardless of the ignition
switch position.
The power seat system includes the power seat adjuster and motors unit, the power seat switch, and
the circuit breaker. Following are general descriptions of the major components in the power seat
16
system. Refer to the owners manual in the vehicle glove box for more information on the features use
and operation of the power seat system.
The front and rear of a seat are operated by different motors. They can be raised or lowered
independently of each other. When the center seat switch is pushed to the Up or Down position, both
the front and rear motors operate in unison, moving the entire seat up or down. The forward-
rearward motor is operated by pushing the center seat switch to the Forward or Rearward
position.
When a switch is actuated, a battery feed and a ground path are applied through the switch
contacts to the motor(s). The motor(s) and drives operate to move the seat in the selected direction
until the switch is released, or until the travel limit of the power seat adjuster is reached. When the
switch is moved in the opposite direction, the battery feed and ground path to the motor(s) are
reversed through the switch contacts. This causes the motor to run in the opposite direction.
Each motor contains a self-resetting circuit breaker to protect it from overload Consecutive or
frequent resetting of the circuit breakers must not be allowed to continue, or the motors may be
damaged. Make the necessary repairs.
The power seat adjuster and motors cannot be repaired, and are serviced only as a complete unit. If
any component in this unit is faulty or damaged, the entire power seat adjuster and motors
assembly must be replaced.
CIRCUIT BREAKER
An automatic resetting circuit breaker in the junction block is used to protect the power seat system
circuit. The circuit breaker can protect the system from a short circuit, or from an overload condition
caused by an obstructed or stuck seat adjuster. The circuit breaker cannot be repaired and, if faulty
or damaged, it must be replaced.
CIRCUIT BREAKER
For circuit descriptions and diagrams, refer to 8W-63 - Power Seat in Group 8W - Wiring Diagrams.
(1) Locate the correct circuit breaker in the junction block. Pull out the circuit breaker slightly,
but be certain that the circuit breaker terminals still contact the terminals in the junction block
cavities.
(2) Connect the negative lead of a 12-volt DC volt- meter to a good ground.
(3) With the voltmeter positive lead, check both terminals of the circuit breaker for battery
voltage. If only one terminal has battery voltage, the circuit breaker is faulty and must be
replaced. If neither terminal has battery voltage, repair the open circuit from the Power
Distribution Center (PDC) as required.

Troubleshooting
Because a vehicle's electrical system also functions by using fuses, the vehicle will have a fuse box located on
the side of the dashboard somewhere. If your vehicle's seat won't move, the first thing you will want to check is
the fuse box. You can figure out which fuse controls the mechanical seat functions by referring to your owner's
manual. Simply removing the cover of the fuse box will be of no help, as all the fuses look similar and are simply
numbered. Refer to your owner's manual to figure out which number corresponds with the seat functions. If this
does not work, there may be a problem with the wiring, and the car might need to be taken to the dealer.
(7) Remove the power seat switch from the seat cushion side shield.
19
(8) Reverse the removal procedures to install. Tighten the mounting screws to 2.2 Nm (20 in.lbs.).
(5) Remove the two screws that secure the front of the seat adjuster frame to the floor panel seat
mounting reinforcement (Fig. 4).

(6) Remove the screw that secures the outboard rear of the seat adjuster frame to the floor panel.
(7) Remove the nut that secures the inboard rear of the seat adjuster frame to the stud on the
floor panel.
(8) Remove the seat and the power seat adjuster and motors assembly from the vehicle as a unit.
(9) Remove the four nuts that secure the power seat adjuster and motors assembly to the seat
cushion frame (Fig. 5).
(10) Remove the power seat switch from the outboard side of the seat. Refer to Power Seat Switch
in the index of this service manual for the location of the proper power seat switch removal
and installation procedures.
(11) Disengage the power seat switch wire harness and connector from the seat cushion frame.
(12) Remove the power seat adjuster and motors assembly from the seat cushion frame.
(13) Reverse the removal procedures to install. Tighten the seat mounting hardware as follows:
