1. Equipment used and their location and purpose:
a. System components
Flow meters
Many flow meters in each site are used in different locations to indicate the water flow rate, so that take
an action according to the case.
A. ATTATRAH
Three flow meters are used in ATTATRHA:
FIT_210
FIT_209
The above two flow meters are located on the inlet of the main reservoir and they will
serve for chlorination dosing as well.
FIT_535
This flow meter is located on the outlet of the booster pumps; its readings play a main
role in controlling the speed of the booster pumps as well as the number of running
pumps in case of fixed-flow-rate control mode.
B. NUSAIRAT
Four flow meters are used in NUSAIRAT:
FIT_201
FIT_202
FIT_203
All the above flow meters are located on the inlet of the main reservoir and they will
serve for chlorination dosing as well.
FIT_535
This flow meter is located on the outlet of the booster pumps; its readings play a main
role in controlling the speed of the booster pumps as well as the number of running
pumps.
C. MAAN
Same as in NUSAIRAT.
D. AL BERKAH
E. Same as in NUSAIRAT.
Level switches
The level switches are used to indicate the water level in the main reservoir in all sites. Each site has two
level switches:
LSLL_211
Mainly used to indicate the low water level in the main reservoir.
It is located in the bottom of the main reservoir and calibrated on a specific
value, so that after reaching it, the sensor will be turned on and so a signal to
PLC will be received.
LSHH_211
Mainly used to indicate the high water level in the main reservoir.
It is located in the bottom of the main reservoir and calibrated on a specific
value, so that after reaching it, the sensor will be turned on and so a signal to
PLC will be received.
LSHH_212 ( In MAAN in the addition tank)
Pressure switches
The pressure switches are mainly used to indicate the high pressure of each booster pump. They are
located on the pipe just after each booster pump in all sites:
PSHH_510
PSHH_520
PSHH_530
They are calibrated on a specific value, so that after reaching it, the sensor will be turned on and so a
signal to PLC will be received (considered as interlock).
Pressure transmitters
All the used pressure transmitters in all sites are located on the outlet of the booster pumps. They are
used to indicate the high or low pressure of the booster pumps so that the PLC will turn off them in any
case (considered as interlock).
Level transmitters
One level transmitter is used in ATTATRAH, NUSAIRAT and AL BERKAH and two level transmitters are
used in MAAN (because of the additional tank).
They are used to indicate the water level in the main reservoir and having a main role in controlling the
number of pumps to be run in case of fixed-speed control mode.
Flow switches
The flow switches are mainly used to indicate the low flow of each booster pump. They are located on
the pipe just before each booster pump in all sites:
FSLL_510
FSLL_520
FSLL_530
They are calibrated on a specific value, so that after reaching it, the sensor will be turned on and so a
signal to PLC will be received (considered as interlock).
The flow sensors signal will not be taken into account unless a delay time from pumps
start signal had passed
Proximity switches
These switches are used for security issues, to indicate if the door of a specific room is opened.
They are located in the same places for all sites as follow:
XS_102A
XS_102B
XS_103
All the above sensors are located in the electrical room.
XS_104
Located in the disinfection building.
XS_201
Located in the guard house room.
Fire sensors
They are used to indicate the fire occurrence in the electrical room.

5. Safety of system
General safety precaution
Siemens equipment
Siemens provides products and solutions with industrial security functions that support the secure
operation of plants, systems, machines and networks. In order to protect plants, systems, machines
and networks against cyber threats, it is necessary to implement and continuously maintain a
holistic, state-of-the-art industrial security concept. Siemens products and solutions only form one
element of such a concept. Customer is responsible to prevent unauthorized access to its plants,
systems, machines and networks. Systems, machines and components should only be connected to
the enterprise network or the internet if and to the extent necessary and with appropriate security
measures (e.g. use of firewalls and network segmentation) in place.
Siemens products and solutions undergo continuous development to make them more secure.
Siemens strongly recommends to apply product updates as soon as available and to always use the
latest product versions. Use of product versions that are no longer supported, and failure to apply
latest updates may increase customers exposure to cyber threats.
Automated system safety
The system is designed to be very secure and to prevent any anticipated damage as much as possible. This is
achieved either by the VFDs wires connections, or via PLC alarms and signals.
VFDs wires are connected to prevent the booster pumps from working in case of faults occurrence, these faults
are almost the same as the PLC interlocks that will also lead to turning off the booster pumps. This is done to
ensure that the system is safely protected.
These interlocks will be taken into account if the pumps are operated in the following modes:
Local Auto
Remote Manual
Remote Auto
In addition, there are many system warnings that indicate the probabilities of faults occurrence but will not
prevent the pumps from working, as:
Low or high water level, these warnings will appear before the (low low or high high alarms) so
that the operator can take an action to prevent the booster pumps from stop working.
Fire alarm, that will indicate
High or low pressure on the outlet of the booster pumps.
Proximity switches, that will indicate the door opening of a specific room.
Moreover, there are many buttons that will stop the system from working in case any fault happened suddenly,
such as:

7. Preventive maintenance (period of scheduled maintenance and procedures)
Siemens products and solutions undergo continuous development to make them more secure. Siemens strongly
recommends to apply product updates as soon as available and to always use the latest product versions. Use of
product versions that are no longer supported, and failure to apply latest updates may increase customers
exposure to cyber threats.
PLC
CPU diagnostics
Integrated system diagnostics is activated by default for the CPUs. The different types of
diagnostics are configured instead of programmed. System diagnostics information is shown
uniformly and in plain text on the display of the CPU, in STEP 7, on the HMI and on the Web server,
even for alarms related to drives. This information is available in RUN mode, but also in STOP
mode of the CPU. The diagnostic information is updated automatically when you configure new
hardware components.
You can lock the front panel to protect your CPU against unauthorized access.
You can attach a security seal or a padlock with a diameter of 3 mm to the front panel.
8. Troubleshooting (diagnostics, remedies)
a. Initial diagnostics via HMI
Tasks of the HMI Alarms: to inform the operator about process malfunctions and errors. They help to detect critical
situations early and to avoid downtimes.
The following alarms will be visible through HMI alarm window (same Alarms in all sites):

And the details are written in the description window.
Please note that the errors can also be read from the CPU screen itself for faster diagnostics.
From device and networks, the whole system can be visualized and seen what is connected and what is not:
