National Youth Listening Tour

Purpose:

The purpose of the tour is to engage young people to inform our approach in
meeting the President’s 2020 goal of having the “best educated, most competitive
workforce in the world.” Over the course of the summer and fall, the department
will host 15 youth summits in key districts across the country. The goal of each
event will be to open a dialogue with youth from diverse experiences and
backgrounds to discuss what it means to create a college going culture at the
family, community, and school level. As the convener, the department will share
policies and perspectives on education reform and college success, outlining
department programs and grant-making opportunities.

Objectives:

• A final report with findings and recommendations will be presented

departmental leadership.
• Establish relationships with 50-75 youth serving community institutions
• Build a database of 250-500 youth leaders across the country
