Verbos auxiliares

Los verbos auxiliares, tambin llamadas helping verbs (verbos ayudantes), se usan con un
verbo principal para creer formas verbales compuestas. Verbos auxiliares pueden ser
seguidos de uno, dos, hasta tres otros verbos. Los verbos auxiliares se usan para formar
preguntas y oraciones afirmativas y negativas. Los verbos auxiliares incluyen:

Los verbos BE, DO y HAVE son speciales porque se los puede usar como verbos auxiliares o
tambin como verbos principales. Aqu hay ejemplos en donde estn verbos principales.

Los verbos auxiliares siempre preceden el verbo principal. Cuando se los usan como verbos
auxiliares, los verbos BE, DOy HAVE son conjugados por tiempo y persona. Cuando el verbo
auxiliar es BE, el verbo principal que sigue lleva la forma de un participio presente o
un infinitivo.

Cuando el verbo auxiliar es DO, el verbo principal lleva la forma base.

*Normalemente, no se usa el verbo auxiliar DO en una frase afirmativa. Sin embargo, a veces
se lo usa para hacer una contradiccin. Lea la leccin sobre DO.

Cuando el verbo auxiliar es HAVE, el verbo principal lleva la forma de un participio pasado o
un infinitivo.

Los verbos modales nunca se conjugan y siempre estn seguidos por un infinitivo.

Algunas frases usan ms que un verbo auxiliar. Fjese que el primer verbo auxiliar esta
conjugado por tiempo y persona. Los verbos auxiliares que siguen llevan la forma de un
participio presente o participio pasado mientras el verbo principal lleva la forma de un participio
presente o un infinitivo. Aqu hay ejemplos con dos verbos auxiliares.

Los verbos auxiliares se usan con el adverbio negativo notpara formar frases negativas.
Fjese que el adverbio not est colocado entre el verbo auxiliar y el verbo principal.
