1 Name, Scope and Level of the Course
The course is provided by the University of Skvde and
is named Creativity and Science G1N. It comprises 15
credits and is on Basic level, the level of progression of
the course is G1N.
2 Objectives
After completing the course the student will be able to:
describe with the help of concrete examples how
science develops and which role creativity plays
in such development,
analyze the concept of creativity from different
perspectives (e.g. from those of art and science),
explain how chaos and order are related to crea-
tivity,
identify factors which block creativity in sci-
ence, as well as to
explain how communication can facilitate crea-
tivity.
3 Course Content
The course begins by going through some central the-
ories and concepts in philosophy of science, such as
paradigm and falsification. The students will con-
sider whether different paradigms prevent communica-
tion in science and how this influences the possibilities
of creativity.
The challenge is to understand creativity better through
considering the concepts of order and chaos, how they
have developed in modern physics and whether they
can help us to understand artistic creativity. The ques-
tion of whether communication can facilitate creativity
and what is required of such communication will also
be discussed.
4 Forms of Teaching
The teaching consists of studying on ones own, sub-
mitting individual home works, watching film se-
quences and taking part in teacher guided discussions
in the Scio platform. The students are also encouraged
to create their own chat groups.
The teaching is normally conducted in Swedish, but
can occasionally be in English.
5 Examination
The course is graded Fail (U), Pass (G) or Pass with
Distinction (VG).
To get the grade Pass for the whole course it is requi-
red that the all four examination modules have been
passed. To get the grade Pass with Distinction, it is
required that the grade of three out of four examination
modules is Pass with Distinction.
The grade is translated to the ECTS grading scale (A,
B, C, D, E, Fx or F).

7 Subject, Main Field of Study and Disciplinary
Domain
The course forms a part of the academic subject area
of Philosophy. The course is a part of the main field of
study in Philosophy at the University of Skvde. The
disciplinary domain of the course is The Humanities.
Every course at the University of Skvde belongs to
a subject. The division of subjects is used for follow-
up and quality assurance. A main field of study is an
area in which a degree can be awarded. Disciplinary
domain is a division which is used by the government
for the allocation of recsources for studies at under-
graduate level and advanced level.

During and after the course there will be a follow-
up evaluation concerning the learning outcomes. The
main objective of the follow-up is to contribute to
improving the course. The students experience and
points of view constitute one part of the scrutiny and
are obtained through written group course evalua-
tion/discussions. The students are to be informed about
the outcome of these as well as possible decisions con-
cerning steps to be taken.
