SALARY LEVEL: $16.00 - $22.00 PER HOUR

INTRODUCTION:
The Water Quality Technician III position involves tasks related primarily to the Lake Roosevelt
Fisheries Evaluation Program. Program goals are to assess environmental impacts from hydro-
operations, wild and hatchery fish populations, and to predict fishery responses to management
actions. The position is responsible for taxonomic identification of zooplankton and
macroinvertebrates and assisting Project Biologists with monitoring activities (including, but not
limited to: reservoir-wide water quality, zooplankton, creel survey, fyke net, seine sampling,
electrofishing, marking activities, and telemetry), and equipment care and maintenance.

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

The primary responsibility of the Water Quality Technician III position is taxonomic identification
and processing of zooplankton and macroinvertebrate samples.
Assist Project Biologists with field surveys including invertebrate collection, operation and
maintenance of mulitprobe datasone, water sampling and fish identification.
Assist Project Biologists with gear preparation and maintenance.
Data entry and quality assure limnological data.
Other duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS REQUIRED FOR POSITION:

Background in limnology or aquatic biology/ecology with the ability to apply appropriate
limnological and ecological approaches and methodologies.
Ability to accurately identify and process zooplankton and macroinvertebrate samples.
Knowledge of appropriate sample handling and preparation techniques.

SUPERVISORY CONTROL:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to supervise fisheries
technicians, interns, and volunteers.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
 B.A. or B.S. degree in aquatic biology, fisheries, or closely related field; AND demonstratable
experience with North American zooplankton and macroinvertebrate taxonomy in a professional
laboratory setting.
Must have a valid Washington State Drivers License, and tribally insurable.
Must have (or the ability to attain) a Washington Boater Education Card.
Must be proficient in Microsoft Office Suite including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
Excellent written and oral communication skills.
Ability to work independently and effectively in supervised and non-supervised settings.
Demonstrated ability to coordinate and work effectively with co-workers, project partners, co-
managers, and public outreach organizations.
This position requires ability to perform physically demanding work outdoors in variable weather
conditions, including inclement weather.
Good employment history with references.
Boating experience, demonstrated training in boating safety, with particular emphasis on swift
water boating experience and safety training preferred.
