EDUCATIONAL BACKGROUND
PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE
Teaching ASL Core Courses include: ASL 1-5, Linguistics, Classifiers, Non-manual Markers,
Semantics, Fingerspelling and Numbers, and Deaf Culture. Developing course materials and
videos for lecture, supplemental exercise, and assessment in comprehension and articulation.
Students engage in collaborative learning through discussion forum on D2L Brightspace and
GoReact online. Monitoring and providing support to student members of ASL Club. Screening
and assessing transfer students taking ASL Test Out for course placement. On the Advisory
Committee for collaborative work with other ASL Programs/Departments within the Twin
Cities, sharing ideas and tools for enhance learning in classroom and services.
Teaching American Sign Language 1-4 courses to students needing credits toward ASL
Certificate, Child Psychology degree, or complete prerequisites ASL courses prior entering the
Interpreting Program. Understanding the language pragmatics of ASL communication in social
contexts and cultural behaviors in the Deaf community and in the interpreting field.
Teaching ASL 1 & 2 to students in grades 9-12 taking World Languages credits. Meeting with
student after hours for additional support in learning and practicing specific areas within ASL
contents. Communicating with parents on weekly for class activities and students progress.
Creating and Developing ASL curriculum in align to Curriculum MAPS with colleagues.
Assessing students ASL sign skill in receptive and expressive competency in levels 1-4.
Developing course materials and online lab for supplemental practice and learning application.
Collaborating ideas and develop materials and resources with other faculty staff to better
learning tools for the students and for the program.
Teaching ASL core courses (levels 1-5) for ACTC credits or Interpreting Training Program
prerequisite credits. Understanding ASL and English languages, knowledge of Deaf culture and
community, engage in the Deaf events and/or clubs, fulfill ASL language competency in
articulation prior Interpreting Training Program degree.
Teaching hearing parents with a deaf child learning ASL to communicate. Developing lessons
and materials corresponding to their skill levels and length of working with diverse families.
Creating activities for all of members in the family to engage through visual, gesture and
communicate in sign language only.
An introduction course to interpreting/translating both ASL and English, to analyze spoken and
signed texts intralingually in both meaning and form. Establish hands on activity practice in

people. Understand about American Sign Language, Dear culture, and Deafness related
resources.
Prepare students to meet and fulfill their prerequisite courses prior the Interpreting Training
Program focusing in medical fieldwork. Assess students sign language expressive and

(informal and formal).
Understand the philosophy of the Signing Naturally curriculum and teaching applications.
Observe and understand teaching approaches corresponding to the curriculum. Assess students
comprehension of ASL language, ability to interpret conceptual meanings of signs. Students
develop visualization skill through understanding and using the spatial language, the ability to
use facial expressions and body movements in communication. Screening learners Language
Proficiency interview at the end of their 2-year language requirements.
Tutoring ASL students needing additional practice or assistance in ASL grammatical, conceptual
meaning of signs, discourse exercise, fingerspelling and numbers exercise, classifiers, spatial
perception exercise. Working with ASL students developing in independent learning skills.
Working one-on-one with deaf students: supplemental reading, writing, and math as well as
other subjects when needed. Teaching Deaf culture and sign language to deaf students,
understand the Deaf identity as a bilingual/bicultural person. Assisting deaf students in
understanding how to interpret and convey thoughts through sign language to writing English -
understanding the conceptual meanings of signs and finding English words. ASL consulting sign
language interpreters and Deaf and Hard of hearing teachers in interpreting/translating English to
ASL.
