[Boston is one of Americas oldest continuously occupied cities, it is made up of buildings constructed in many ways over a period of more than
three centuries. New architectural styles appeared while others became old-fashioned and died out, but sometimes buildings in different styles were

Boston is Massachusetts capital and largest city. Founded in 1630, its one of the oldest cities in the U.S. Boston is a region of duality, because it
is said to feel like a small town with all the perks of city life. The metro area houses a diverse culinary scene, an appreciation for and access to the arts
and proximity to world-class educational institutions, employers, and health care.(Massachusetts/Boston ) Boston is a historic city that is ever evolving.
I have not had the privilege of visiting Boston, but it is on the top of my list. To live in Boston is like acting out the pages of a history book.
Boston's cost of living is expensive. Bostons weather is supposed to be beautiful in the spring and fall to extremely cold in the winter. Driving in
Boston is noted as being horrific, and Boston does have a good bus system, subway, and Uber. Boston is located on the East Coast and super accessible
for visitors.

Transitional Housing for Ex- Women Offenders
[Grace Ministries is a non-denominational Christian organization established in 1987. This transitional house helps female ex-offenders from all
ethnic backgrounds that are re-entering society after incarceration in the Texas Department of Criminal Justice system and have demonstrated a
willingness to make positive changes in their life. These women are dealing with the residual pain of having been separated from their children for an
extended period and do not have the financial resources to sustain their family. Exodus helps them and their families to become productive members of
society by serving their spiritual and physical needs.] (http://graceministries.org)
Ex-offenders face many life issues and the stigma of being in prison. Most have struggled with substance abuse and have been abandoned by their
husbands. Without loving care and structured guidance, they are vulnerable to returning to their self-defeating ways and negatively impacting the
future of their children.
It is typical for an inmate leaving prison to arrive in Dallas with only $50, no job, just a few friends, and with little hope. Old criminal habits are
just waiting in the shadows. While the average worker makes several thousand decisions a day; an inmate makes less than a hundred a day. Everything
in prison is regimented. So, when they touch ground in the free world, they are overwhelmed with responsibility, yet void of training, a support system,
or a spirit-centered life. Most are destined to fail.

The group offers ex-offenders a chance to change their destiny along with their children. The program provides housing,
childcare, job preparation, personal mentoring, and financial planning. There are currently five staff members that would need office
space. A typical need for women and children are from housing to financial guidance. The goals and ambitions of the organization are
to assist women to not only get on their feet but to recuperate their children and break the cycle of repeat offending, because of lack
of support. The women apply and if they meet the requirement of staying drug-free and sober, can qualify up to a few years of

Grace Transitional Center
Concept Statement
The transitional house located in the historic district of Boston will accommodate single parent women
and their children. The center will embrace the families in a warm welcoming, caring, and beautifully
designed space finding a balance between dignity and safety. The color palette of the Federal era will create a
space that is not only elegant but inspires the women with a sense of balance and hope. One vibrant blue
color will dominate and the other two will highlight it, helping to maintain a visually stabilizing and calm
ambiance throughout the center. . Open floor plans will blend elements of the past and combine them with
contemporary features, producing a fresh and updated look. Blending curves and straight lines, with
American neoclassical furniture that is timeless, elegant, and classic. Design textiles taking the front seat
adding visual interest this design will not only represent the past but will embrace the future. The design will
complement the history of the home as its shine and glory are restored.

Color Palette Inspiration I.
This piece is called The Indian Princess and seems to be embroidery by
young ladies at school in Boston. In the eighteenth century, an Indian princess
was understood symbol for the American colonies. The Federal era in America
drew inspiration from the Greek and Roman statuary, and here we see
neutrals, buff, serenity blue, hues of roses, and a warm brown that would
provide an additional touch of elegance and formality. This palette would give
the space a sense of calmness and relaxation where the rose and serenity blue
blend seamlessly into one another, making it difficult to tell where one ends

and the other begins. When the two colors merge in interior design, they also

Color Palette Inspiration 2.
In this art piece, the artist leans towards pastels. Shades
of green from pale to bold were popular in the Federal era.
Here we see shades of green or teal, and lavenders blended in
perfect harmony. These tones represent balance, calm, and
soothing while also being restorative and rejuvenating ideal
for the unsettled, American period. These teal colors would go
well in the family room, and the darker brown would do great

Color Palette Inspiration 3.
An American artist paints this oil on canvas. She is from
Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, 1844. The color mood is colorful, but
one could mute them for soothing hues. The beige and buff
create a perfect background for an elegant color scheme
combined with the dark - - a fusion of the best elements which
captures the elegance and formality of the Federal Style era. This
color palette would evoke a mysterious feeling but a bit

Custom Color Schemes
This color scheme is monochromatic. I adjusted the saturation a bit to get a darker color for accents. From these
color one will dominate and two other colors will highlight. Using three colors is visually stabilizing. Blue is known
for its trust and dependability. Its reliable, responsible, and mentally soothing. For that reason alone, its one of
the most-liked colors across the entire world. Blues lends a more mental reaction rather than physical that allows
us to destress, calm down, and think of the most ideal situation. Blue will be used for accent walls as to not
overwhelm the senses.
Red is a very powerful, dynamic color that reflects our physical needs whether to show affection and love, or to
portray terror, fear, and survival. Red is also a very energizing color that can portray friendliness and strength, but
can also be demanding. I adjusted the saturation to get deeper hues. I will not use this color palette.

Justification
The lighting fixtures, wall materials, and floor choices were made with the women and children's
transitional center in mind. Restoring the centers historic Federal Style back to its original glory will help bring a
sense of pride to all that work and live in this building. Evoking the sea and skies the many hues of blue and white
palette throughout the center will bring comfort and style thats cool, yet calm and collected. The wallpaper
complements the paint and both are easy to maintain. Lamps and pendant lighting will provide task lighting and
the recessed will give the general illumination. A huge chandelier with a smaller matching one in the gathering
space will give rhythm by pattern repetition, yet provide a wow factor to the beautifully restored center . All the
materials, paint, and wallpaper are easy to maintain with just plain water. The furniture was carefully hand
picked to maintain the integrity of the era and to provide years of welcoming warmth.
