ADDIE: Using Library Resources

Analyze: This online learning training is to introduce first year students to academic resources. Students
need a background knowledge to academic research before they began scholarly work. This tutorial will
help them learn how to identify resources for research assignments.

Objectives: Students will identify sources for research. Compare and contract resources for its
usefulness in academic research.

Students have a prior knowledge of resources from their high school experiences, however this tutorial
will explore the complexities of resources in academic research. It is designed based on the
recommendation of first year English instructors. First year instructors, want to see the quality of
student research papers improve. The training will be completely in done within the eLearning format.

Design: The training is design to introduce students to different resources. There will be a short quiz
after the instruction. Students will be introduced to each resource (books, academic journals,
magazines, newspapers/media, and internet) with a brief description. This will give students a full scope
of how to use resources effectively for research. It will also include benefits and limitations of the
resource as it relates to academic research. After the presentation of this content, students will then
take a brief quiz based on the instruction. The knowledge base quiz is to see how well students
comprehend the lesson/training of library resources. The tutorial will end with additional services for
students that do not completely understand the instruction.

Development: In the development of this tutorial, each resource will include a description and image.
This will allow students to visually identify the content. The quiz will consist of true/false and multiple
choice questions. There will be a total of four questions. However, additions questions may be added at
a later time.

Implementation: The training is based upon the objectives to identify resources for their usefulness.
Before the full implementation of this training a library assistant reviewed it. However, I would want
several stakeholders to review the training before full implementation. This will allow me to implement
any new changes for the instruction.

Evaluation: Students will be given a grade after their training quiz. This training quiz is a marker of the
students knowledge base of the material presented. The grade will determine how will the students
measured against the learning objectives.
