Activity name: Global Warming Impact

Target age range: Gr. 9 -12

Intended learning outcome: The students being able to understand the effects of global warming locally

and globally.

Resources required: Access to the Internet and access to reliable information regarding on global

warming.

Process: - Students in the class are assigned to groups of a few students.

- Each group is asked to research the effects of global warming in Canada and globally.

- All the groups are asked to do a presentation on their findings during class time.
Activity name: International Movie Night

Target age range: Gr. 9 -12

Intended learning outcome: The students being able to learn about other cultures through movies from

other countries.

Resources required: Access to international movies and snacks.

Process: - One day per week, the class spends a class (or during after school) watching movies

from countries other than Canada and the United States.

- Students are asked to take notes about the different cultural aspects about other

countries that stood out for them.

- Snacks should be provided as to make the event more enjoyable for the students.

- Students share the notes that they had taken as increase each others knowledge

about different cultures.


Activity name: International Potluck

Target age range: Gr. 9 - 12

Intended learning outcome: Students being able to learn about the dishes of different countries.

Resources required: Classroom/cafeteria set-up for the students to be able present, share, and eat the

dishes that they have prepared.

Process: - Students are asked to prepare a dish from a country of their choosing (can be from

their native country or a different country).

- They then bring the food to school where they can set the food up with some

handouts mentioning information about the dish.

- The students spend their lunch break eating delicious food and learn about the dishes

of different countries.
Activity name: Canadas Trading Partners

Target age range: Gr. 9 -12

Intended learning outcome: Students being able to understand the complexity of global trade and how

that affects Canada.

Resources required: Access to the Internet and reliable information on global trade.

Process: - Each student picks a country to do research on its trade with Canada.

- They are then asked to do a brief presentation on their findings.

- The information required will be information regarding the imports and exports

between their chosen country and the trends over the years.

- They are also asked about how trade with that country benefits both Canada and their

chosen country.
Activity name: Learning Another Language

Target age range: Gr. 9 - 12

Intended learning outcome: For the students to learn a new sentence in another language each week.

Resources required: Access to the Internet or a reliable translator.

Process: - The students each pick a foreign language to learn the sentences in.

- Each week, the students are asked to learn a specific sentence in another language.

- At the end of the week, the students share what they have learnt with the rest of the

class.

- By the end of the term, the students have learnt a few dozen new sentences in a

language not familiar to them.
