States.AlthoughthesedrugsarenotapprovedforuseinanimalsintheUnitedStates,someofthesedrugsareused
inothercountriesforthetreatmentorpreventionofavianinfluenzainchickens,turkeysandducks.
CEPHALOSPORINS
ELDUofallcephalosporinantibiotics,exceptCEPHAPIRIN,isrestrictedintheUnitedStates.
ELDUrestrictionsdifferforMajorvs.MinorFoodAnimalSpeciesasnotedbelow:
1) MajorFoodAnimalSpecies(Cattle,Pigs,ChickensandTurkeys):ELDUispermissibleonlyfortherapeutic
indicationsthatarenotincludedontheproductlabel.However,ELDUofcephalosporinantibioticsisprohibited
inallofthefollowingsituations:
a) theintendeduseoftheproductdeviatesfromtheapproveddose,treatmentduration,frequencyor
administrationrouteontheproductlabel,
b) theintendeduseofaproductinanunapprovedmajorspeciesoranimalproductionclass,
c) theintendeduseoftheproductforthepurposeofdiseaseprevention.
2) MinorFoodAnimalSpecies(allspeciesthatarenotmajorspecies):ELDUofcephalosporinantimicrobialagents
ispermittedinthesespecies.

BaseduponrecommendationsbytheNationalConferenceonInterstateMilkShipments(NCIMS),theFDA
publishesasetofminimumstandardsandrequirementsfortheproductionofGradeAmilk.Thesestandards,
whicharepublishedcollectivelyastheGradeAPasteurizedMilkOrdinance(GradeAPMO),provideapplicable
CFRreferencesandcanbeusedasaninspectionalguidetocoverspecificoperationsinthedairyindustry,including
pasteurizationequipment,packaging,qualitycontrolandrecordkeepingrequirements.AlthoughthePMOdoesnot
havetheforceofregulations,itprovidesproceduresandstandardsofgeneralapplicabilitythatareacceptableto
FDA.Owingtohumanfoodsafetyconcerns,certaindrugsarenottobeusedornottobestoredondairy
operationsorfedtolactatingdairycattle.Theserestrictionsinclude:
