9 p.m.

tion titled “Stories Without Words.” Dodge is a San Diegan who was inspired to p
aint by her experiences as a war correspondent in Iraq... The works chronicle he
r attempts to portray the struggles of everyday people through a lens tinted by
life-and-death epics. The exhibition will be on display from August 12 to Septem
ber 10 with a special opening reception scheduled for August 12 from 6 p.m. to 9

Dani is deeply motivated by her drive to tell the stories of humanity. She worke
d as a journalist for many years and felt that she had fulfilled her need to tel
l stories with words. Over time it became clear to her that words were not enoug
h, she needed something more expressive and powerful, and discovered painting. T
hrough the use of layered ink, collage and paint she tells raw tales of loneline
ss, joy, pain and triumph. Dani ventures beyond objects and objectivity in searc
h of the elusive truth of our individual and collective soul as she paints outsi
de the lines.
Dani’s experience as a war correspondent in Iraq inspired her to pick up her fir
st paint brush in 2004. Provoked by the expressiveness that painting allowed her
, she studied diligently under more than a dozen artists to acquire as many new
skills as possible. To Dani’s delight, her paintings gained almost instant recog
nition for their unique perspective. In 2009 alone, she won 15 awards including
a Best of Show in the Bonita Museum’s annual fine art exhibit and a People’s Cho
ice Award at the San Diego County Fair. She was a featured artist at the 2010 Mi
ssion Federal ArtWalk, San Diego’s biggest art event, and has been honored with
an invitation to exhibit a solo show in 2012 at the San Diego Art Institute Muse
um of the Living Artist. Her work has even been included in international art sh
