FOREWORD
During the last 30 years the ultrasound has completely changed the prenatal and gynecological
diagnosis. Its implications in the clinical practice of obstetrics and gynecology and the use of more
and more performing ultrasound machines, have been materialized throughout time in numerous
ultrasound meetings and publications.
The Romanian Ultrasound Society in Obstetrics and Gynecology is a young and dynamic society.
The annual congresses of this society attract in various university cities of Romania an increasingly
higher number of participants and scientific papers. This year, Trgu Mure, a town situated in the
heart of the country, has been honored to be the host of the fifth Congress of this Society. Expanding
on three days, the meeting reunited 731 participants and over 100 invited speakers from the country
and from abroad. The congress sections included presentations from allhot topics in ultrasound in
obstetrics and gynecology: fetal heart, ultrasound during labour, alert signs for chromosomal
abnormalities, first trimester screening ultrasound, fetal DNA implications, ultrasound in
urogynecology, infertility, breast, endometriosis and others. The pre-selection of the uploaded
scientific papers led to a number of 153 oral presentations and 69 e-posters. These papers gathered
the work of a generation of sonographers in obstetrics and gynecology from Romania.
The representative papers of this congress were proposed for publishing in this volume. We
selected a number of 128 papers that we are sure the reader will find to be significant and to bring
important scientific information consistent in all topics related to ultrasound in obstetrics and
gynecology.
