1 P urpose

The purpose of this docum ent is to serve as the design basis for structural design
of seven substation transportable buildings for Train 1 and Train 2 of the AP LN G
project in Laird P oint on Curtis Island near G ladstone, Australia. The Laird Point
site on Curtis Island is approxim ately 11km northeast of the city of G ladstone and
is located on an LNG precinct site set aside for developm ent by the Port of
G ladstone.

The blast design loading to be considered is 6.9 kP a (1 psi) for all substations
building s.

The plan dim ension s of the five buildings for Train 1 are listed as below (plan
dim ensions to be verified):

Power G eneration Substation: 59 m x 18.4 m

Loading Area Substation: 32.6 m x 11.8 m

Utility S ubstation: 3 8.8 m x 12.0 m

Train 1 Propane Condenser Su bstation: 37.9 m x 13.8 m

Train 1 Com pressor Substation: 36.3 m x 19.3 m

The plan dim ension s of the two buildings for Train 2 are listed as below (plan
dim ensions to be verified):

Train 2 Propane Condenser Su bstation: 37.9 m x 13.8 m

Train 2 Com pressor Substation: 36.3 m x 19.3 m

A ll the buildings are to be pre-fabricated steel buildings. The buildings will be pre-
fabricated outside of Australia, and will then be transported to the site of the
A PLNG project on Curtis Island, Q ueensland, Australia.

2. The m axim um deflection in any m em ber in the m odule under lifting loads is
lim ited to L / 500 (refer to Section 8), w here L is the span length of the

Lifting eyes shall also be designed for bending about the weak axis using a force

S lings and Shackles

1. S ling angles shall not be less than 45 o with respect to the horizontal plane.

2. S lings and shackles will be che cked under AS D loads. U sually, slings and
shackles are rated w ith a breaking strength to at least five tim es the working

The load factors are determ ined as follows:

1.0 G , per 2002 AS 1170.1 for all dead loads where G is the sum of self

D ead load factors do not include any im pact factors.
In order to account for connections, 14% is applied to self w eight.

5.6 L an d Tr an s p o r t at io n L o ad s

A cceleration values for Land Transport shall be used as per S ection 11.2 of D oc

Longitudinal acceleration = 0.10 g

Transverse acceleration = 0.10 g

No vertical acceleration effect

Horizontal acceleration s do not need to be com b ined. Land transportation

Following load com bination will be used in the blast design for the subject
build ing s:

1. G + aQ +B

where:

G = Dead load of fram e and floor elem ents, equipm ent, and superim posed dead
load if any exists

a = reduction factor applied to conventional live loads to reflect the portion of live
load expected to occur sim ultaneously w ith the blast load,

a = 0.5 for live load less than or equal 5 kPa

1.0 for live load greater than 5 kP a

B = Bla st load

1. Floor deflection for typical roof and floor beam s under dead and live loads w ill
not exceed the lim its, i.e., L/250, given per Table C 1 of 2002 AS/N ZS 1170.0
and Am endm ent 3 (2011).

T he general purpose structural design software package, STAAD .Pro, will be

used to perform the analysis for the buildings under norm al design loads such as
dead load, live load, wind loads, seism ic loads, blast load, sea transportation
loads and lifting loads.
