Mrs. Romero room E7 cromero@jcss.us

Class Website: jcchsromero.weebly.com

Hello and welcome to Algebra 1! Im so excited to meet and teach every single one of you. In this class I have high
expectations for every single one of my students and hope to see you succeed.

Algebra I Standards can be found at:

https://www.georgiastandards.org/Georgia-Standards/Frameworks/Algebra-I-Standards.pdf

Makeup Work

The attendance policy can be found in your student handbook. If you miss class, you will need to check the makeup
work file in my classroom and get any handouts or notes for that day. YOU are responsible for getting makeup work
and learning the material taught in class on the day you were absent. I am available for help after school.

Assignments that are due on the date of any absence are due on the date of your return. If you do not have the
assignment on the date of your return then it is considered late work.

Assignments that are given on the date of an absence are due one week from your return If you do not turn in your
assignment the following week it will be considered late work. If there is an extended absence an appropriate time line
will be given at teacher discretion.

Late Work

Any student that fails to turn in an assignment on the due date assigned by the teacher will be able to earn a maximum
grade of a 70 on that assignment moving forward. The student will have until one week after the next summative
assessment to turn the late assignment in for credit. The teacher will mark the assignment Missing in the gradebook
with a comment as to the last day to turn in the assignment and assign the student to a Late Work Detention session to
make up the assignment. These detentions will be after school. The teacher will contact the parent. If a student still
fails to turn in the assignment one week after the summative assessment, a zero will be recorded for this assignment
and the teacher will enter a comment as to why the grade is a zero.

Below is a checklist of things you can do to ensure your childs success in class:

Make sure your child comes to school every day with their supplies.
Check your childs homework each night for completion and understanding.
Help your child review for tests and quizzes.
Check our online grading system, Infinite Campus, weekly to make sure that your child is turning in work and doing
well on tests and quizzes.
Communicate with me and your child regularly to ensure that every step is being taken for his or her mathematics
success.
Provide transportation for your child to come to tutoring in the mornings and/or afternoons or request them to
make use of the remediation period. I can be available Monday-Thursday for these opportunities.

What I expect students to do in order to learn and succeed in my classroom:

Have material ready for class.

Complete assignments, quizzes, and tests in a timely manner.
Be respectful. I will always treat you with respect and I expect you to do the same. For example, do not interrupt
our lessons to ask to use the restroom, throw away something, or sharpen your pencil.
Have integrity. Do your own work! This is the only way you will be successful in this class. I would rather take an
assignment late than for it to be someone elses work.
Be Successful. Dont be scared to ask questions. My job is to answer all your math questions.
Have empathy for others. If someone is having a bad day please be sympathetic to their situation. Dont pick on or
intentionally hurt others.

Behavior Plan

1. A verbal warning will be given

2. Student/teacher conference after class
3. Parent contact and detention
4. Parent conference
5. Administrative referral

Cell Phones, MP3s, and any other Device Policy- None are allowed during class.

1. Warning- Student will receive a warning the first time about using their cell phone.
2. Warning- Student will be asked to place the cell phone in the cell phone box on my desk. They will receive it back at
the end of class.
3. Warning- Student will be asked to place the cell phone in the cell phone box on my desk. They will receive it back at
the end of the day. A parent contact will be made.
4. Administrative Referral- Student will be asked to turn in their cell phone and it will be turned over to the front office
with an administrative write up.

JCCHS Academic Honesty Policy

Academic dishonesty is inexcusable conduct, and will not be tolerated. Students at Jackson County High School are
expected to submit work for evaluation that has been completed solely by that student, unless group assignments have
been so designated. Students are expected to maintain academic integrity at all times. A student who chooses to cheat
will receive a zero for the assignment, the teacher will contact the parents, and the student will be referred to the
administration. For first time offenders, teachers will work with the student to establish a timeline to make up / retake
the assignment; however, the highest grade they will be able to receive will be a 70. For any subsequent cheating
infractions, a zero will be received for the assignment without the option to re-submit. The JCCHS Academic Honesty
Policy in its entirety is available in the student handbook.

FORMATIVE ITEMS- In-process assignments that should be corrected and re-assessed.

I. Formative Topic Mastery/Class Assignments (will use a .15 multiplier)

Formative Topic Masteries: consisting of 3-5 questions, will be given over each standard. Students may use their class
notes and homework to complete each topic mastery and each question will be graded on a 3-point scale with a 3
showing complete mastery of the standard. If a student gets a question wrong, they may make corrections and write a
sentence explaining what he or she did wrong the first time. Corrections WITH explanations may be turned in for full
credit on the topic mastery. Students who are absent will be given the topic mastery to complete at home and turn in
the next day. Students can expect topic masteries every 2-3 days in class.

1) Can be corrected once.

2) Corrections must have an explanation with new answer.
3) All topic masteries and TM corrections need to be done before the unit test.

Class Assignments: Students will always have an assignment every day. I will assess this daily for an average unit grade.

II. Formative Quizzes and Notebook (will use a .30 multiplier)

Quizzes: Approximately every 1-2 weeks, students will be given a closed-note quiz. If a student does not perform
as well on the closed-note quiz as he or she had hoped, one additional quiz opportunity will be given. In
order to take a re-quiz, the following steps must be taken:

1) Student completes corrections of all incorrect answers (including partially incorrect) and writes a sentence for
each answer explaining what he or she did wrong the first time.
2) Student has corrections checked by any math teacher.
3) Student must come to Math Remediation during 4th period to take the re-quiz.
4) The re-quiz grade will be used in the gradebook as the most recent evidence of mastery.
5) Need to be retaken within a week after unit test day.
6) If absent, then they have one week upon return to make up.

SUMMATIVE ITEMS

I. Summative Test/Project (a .55 multiplier will be used)

Approximately every 4-6 weeks, students will be assessed over entire units. Students who wish to improve their score
on a Unit Test may complete remediation during 4th period or with their teacher to master the test content. Once
remediation is complete, the student may take one retake of the Unit Test. It will not be the same test, but it will cover
the same material. Students will be allowed exactly one re-test per semester. If students do not take advantage of their
re-test in the first semester they may not transfer it to the second semester. If absent, students have exactly one week
upon return to make up the test.

Algebra I: Syllabus and Class Behavior Plan
II. Midterm (5%)

At the end of the first semester (18 weeks), students will be given a comprehensive exam over the course content
covered until that point. The midterm may not be retaken

*Final Average*

The students Final Average will be determined by a combination of the semester average and the End of Course Test
administered by the state department. The semester average will be weighted as 80% of the students grade while
courses with an End of Course Test will be weighted 20%.
