Materials: worksheets, paper, coloured pencils, pens, blackboard, chalk, video projector, laptop, an
apple.

Methods: explanation, conversation, observation, elicitation, oral drill activities, description,


drawings.

Anticipated problems: Some students might need further help and extra indications in solving the
tasks and they may also need some of these indications to be given in Romanian.

Time: 90 minutes

Lesson aims:

to stir students interest in the new lesson;


to elicit from the students already acquired knowledge about existential vocabulary
to teach and learn new words

to practice group work (to play a game)
to give students some relatively controlled speaking practice using the words learned

Activity 1 warm-up Interaction: T-Ss, Ss-T Timing: 3 min

Aims:

to help students feel relaxed

Organisation: individual work

Materials: none

Procedure:

T asks Ss How are you today? / Is anybody absent? / Are you ready to start the English
class?

Ss answer Ts questions;

Activity 2 Interaction: T-Ss, Ss-T Timing: 7 min

Aims:

to create a pleasant atmosphere for learning and to break the ice

to play a game (Pass the apple)

Organisation: whole class

Materials: an apple

Procedure:

T introduces the next activity and explains the Ss the content of it. T throws the apple at a S
and asks him/her to say a word aloud after he/she catches the apple. As soon as he/she says
the word, he/she has to throw the apple to another classmate. The classmate who receives
the apple has to say a word that starts with the last letter of the first word. A player gets
disqualified if he/she starts his/her word with a wrong letter or fails to say a word within 5

seconds. The passing continues till all the players are disqualified except one who is
declared to be the winner.

Activity 3 Interaction: T-Ss, Ss-Ss, Ss-T Timing: 15 min

Aims:

to involve class by focussing Ss attention and making them think


to practice listening skills

Organisation: individual work

Materials: blackboard, chalk, video projector, laptop

Procedure:

T designs a brainstorming activity. T writes the word FRUITS on the blackboard and asks the Ss to
give examples of words that come to their mind and are related to it.

T provides them the opportunity to revise vocabulary related to fruits.

Ss complete the task

T asks Ss to be very attentive because they are going to watch a power point presentation on
fruits.

Activity 4 Interaction: T-Ss, Ss-Ss, Ss-T Timing: 15 min

to check if theyve learnt and understood the new vocabulary

Activity 5 Interaction: T-Ss, Ss-T Timing: 15 min

Aims:

to provide further practice of the new vocabulary.

Organisation: individual work

Materials: workbook 2

Procedure:

T asks Ss to look at handout no.2


T explains the tasks
Ss have to write about their favourite and least favourite fruits and also to identify name of
fruits that are red, blue, yellow etc.
Ss complete the sentences from their workbook and read aloud the statements

Activity 6 Interaction: T-S, S-S, S-T Timing: 10 min

Aims:

to play a game (Fruit salad)


Organisation: group work

Materials: none

Procedure:

T announces the next activity and asks Ss to form a circle. T explains briefly the rules. Some
of the Ss will be apples, some bananas, some oranges, some melons etc. When the T calls
bananas they have to come in the circle etc. When the T says fruit salad all of them have to
come in the circle.

Activity 7: Interaction: T-S, S-S, S-T Timing: 10 min

to play a game Guess the name of the fruit


to practice working in teams

Organisation: team work

Materials: video projector

Procedure:

T tells Ss that they are going to work in teams for the next activity (T can also give names to
the new formed teams). Each team will be shown a number of pictures. They have to name
the fruit they see in the picture. The team who manages to name all the pictures wins the

Activity 8: Interaction: T-S, S-S, S-T Timing: 10 min

Aims:

To encourage students to participate fun-filled activity

Organisation: individual work

Materials: handout no.3

Procedure:

T asks students to look at the last handout and explains the tasks.
Ss have to do a matching exercise, to write a recipe using some words given and also to
complete the lyrics of the poem with the name of their favourite fruit.
Ss complete the task.

Whole class assessment of the activity by correcting the possible mistakes.

Aims:

to get feed-back from the Ss
