Introduction

1 Introduction

1.1 What is Antamedia Bandwidth Manager ?

The Antamedia Bandwidth Manager is a Windows PC gateway software which helps you control and
limit the Internet usage, including download and upload rate, for every computer in your network.
Computers can be limited with specified time and quota per session, day time when access is allowed
and set to logout after inactivity. Our bandwidth shaper is suitable for various purposes:
- Home or neighborhood Internet sharing, user connection limitation, blocking child sensitive URLs based
on keywords
- Company Internet sharing, limitation, tracking what employees are visiting, and blocking sensitive
content, desired non-work related websites etc.
- Internet and game cafes where each computer can have different download and upload rates. No
additional Client software installations are required

Bandwidth Manager doesn't require any proprietary hardware so you can use any standard PC with two
network cards. It's hardware independent and you can use any type of Access Points, Routers, Switches
and other equipment. You can use it with WiFi, WiMax, LAN, Cable, DSL, Satellite and other type of
network connections.

The software includes statistics and reporting with many useful features.

Antamedia 2010 1
Bandwidth Manager Manual
Introduction

1.2 Requirements
The Antamedia Bandwidth Manager software should be installed on a standard PC computer, running
Windows OS. The Computer needs to have two network cards; one being connected to the Internet
and the other one to your network.

The Bandwidth Manager analyzes all the network traffic between computers on your network and the
Internet. If computer is logged in, the traffic is passed through the second network card to the Internet.

The Antamedia Bandwidth Manager has to be configured as a gateway for all the computers in your
network. On the first run, the Bandwidth Manager helps you configure your network through Setup
Wizard.

Introduction

1.3 How Can It Help You ?

Bandwidth Manager Benefits
The Antamedia Bandwidth Manager has advanced architecture which allows both, simple and very large
networks. You can install it on one computer and start controlling computers from your network. As your
network grows, you do not need to change anything. Everything is routed through the same computer
which saves depoyment time and maintenance. With using the Bandwidth Manager software you can
control the computer Internet access based on MAC, IP address or both, limit bandwidth quota, daily
bandwidth quota, upload and download speed, usage time, daily usage time etc.

Defined Internet Access for Known and Unknown Users

If you offer the Internet access to walk-in customers (unknown users), the Bandwidth Manager helps you
configure separate limitations for such users. By enabling Autologin, you can allow access for unknown
computers to the network with separate connection parameters. The advantage of our solution lies in
high customization of User accounts which allows creating limited or unlimited accounts. Among classic
features like time and bandwidth quota limits, you can configure daily time limit, number of daily logins,
number of simultaneous logins with aggregation which is very practical when offering free WiFi Internet.
In addition, its very easy to offer the paid Internet access with higher speeds, quota or unlimited daily or
monthly access.

Control Employee Internet Use

It is strongly recommended that you produce a company policy on the Internet usage, ensuring that
within it you include your policy on employee monitoring. Thus the employees know both what they can
and what they cannot do and what you may be doing to observe them. The Bandwidth Manager software
has incorporated monitoring within the actual control of what can be accessed. Software does not trap or
record emails since they has raised more technical legal issues than accessing networks or websites.
Instead of that it simply records what computer and user accessed, which website, as that removes any
challenge on the basis of intercepting private communication. From the software you will be able to
block access to sites and achieve the basic aim, which is reducing the time and bandwidth wasted on
web surfing. Besides the blocked access to sites, you can go further and set banned keywords within
urls, for example, you can automatically block any website with sex or porn in the URL. Rather than
presenting your employees with a blank screen, you can also set Bandwidth Manager to auto-redirect
certain URLS to more work friendly sites. Alternatively you can display your Internet usage policy as a
blunt reminder, or perhaps a request form, and if necessary, the user can ask for an exception to that
specific site.

Offer WiFi Services in Your Hotel, Coffee Shop, Restaurant

Offering high-speed wireless Internet services in one hotel will only help you increase occupancy and
improve tenant and guest satisfaction. Furthermore, it will also represent an additional source of revenue
for your business. Using the Antamedia Bandwidth Manager software in your WiFi Hotel, you are able to:
- control and monitor the access to the Internet for all computers, both the wired and the wireless in
your guest rooms;
- provide reliable wireless Internet access in your restaurant, lobby and conference rooms, which makes
it ideal for seminars and meetings;
- maintain secure access to the Internet resources outside the hotel, like on golf courses or by the hotel
pools.

Serve Walk-in Laptop Customers in Your Cyber Cafe

If you run an Internet Caf or a Gaming Center, a great profit booster can be a wireless network. Many
people use their own laptop for everyday job or on vacation to stay in touch with family and friends. Even
in non-working hours of your primary business, your customers will be able to use your services and

generate profit. Best of all, it's automated, there is no maintenance fee for computers, licenses, software
and OS.

Can Be Used in Various Locations

Flexible architecture makes it suitable for different locations such as Internet Caf, Cyber Caf , Resorts,
Hotels, Motels, enterprises that provide Internet access to guests, Hospitals, Universities, Schools or
other education institutions , Coffee Shops, Shopping Malls, Conference Centers, Business Centers,
apartment Internet service control etc...

1.4 The User Interface

The main screen shows the most important details of connected computers: IP and MAC address, time,
quota, download and upload rate and inactivity timeout. The bottom status line shows a number of
connected computers as users and current total download and upload rate represented in KB/sec. These
values are continuously updated. On the top status bar the software displays important messages, like
users login and logout, so you can always see what is happening on your Bandwidth Manager.

From the main screen, represented on the picture below, you can choose one of the options:

CONNECTIONS Displays (logged in) computers and their current status

USERS Configuration panel for the access of known and unknown computers to the network
STATISTICS Contains log, statistics and reports, visited URLs and connection log showing who is
trying to login in your network
SETUP Administrator configuration options
LOGOUT Locks Bandwidth Manager software to prevent an unauthorized activity. The Bandwidth
Manager continues with the traffic control after the employee or the administrator
logout

If you prefer smaller computer icons, you can switch to compact view and display more computers on the
screen. The option is located in Bandwidth Manager - Setup - Options - Misc. Options page.

The inactivity field shows remaining time till the automatic logout. The inactivity is optional for every
account and a default number of seconds can be specified in Bandwidth Manager - Network page.

The first step in setting up the Bandwidth Manager is sharing the Internet connection. This step is
required in order to allow all the customers in your network to access the Internet.

There are several ways to share the Internet connection:

- Using the Antamedia Bandwidth Manager (Network Address Translation), a feature available in
the Premium Edition and within the trial interval. Setup Wizard will help you configure the NAT and give
you the sample of how to configure the connections of computers in your network
- Using the Microsoft Internet Connection Sharing available in Windows OS
- Using the Routing and Remote Access available in Windows Server editions

Network Configuration

After you configure the Internet sharing, please select Network Interface which connects your network
to the Bandwidth Manager. On a selected network interface the Bandwidth manager will activate the
integrated Web Server which is used to control and filter computers access to the Internet. By changing
the network interface, the IP address will be automatically filled in. Please enable Autostart and press
on the Save button to store your settings.

The last step is clicking on the Start button to activate the Bandwidth Manager engine. From that
moment the computers on the network will access the Internet based on your configuration from User
panel.

In case that network computers don't have access to the Internet, please check if
- the Internet connection is shared
- the computers in your network have correct connection settings (IP address, subnet mask, gateway,
DNS). Please make sure that the gateway IP of the client computers is the same IP as IP address in the
Network Setup page.
- Windows Firewall and other firewalls are configured to allow the Bandwidth Manager communication
- other web servers use port 80
- Skype uses port 80. Please disable this feature in Skype - Options - Connection - 'Use port 80 and 443
as alternatives for incoming connections' and restart Skype and the Antamedia Bandwidth Manager.

Network Configuration

2.2 NAT Setup

The Network Address Translation (NAT) is the process of modifying the packet network address in
order to use one public IP address with multiple usually local IP addresses. To say it simply, the NAT is
performing the Internet connection sharing.

For example, you are using ADSL to connect to your ISP, and your computer gets one public IP address
(like 202.102.43.11). Since all the customer computers in your Bandwidth Manager network should have
it's own IP address, you can use the NAT to do the translation between the local IP address (like
192.168.0.2 - 192.168.0.254) and the public IP which ISP assigned to your ADSL. Of course, the NAT
can be used with any type of devices and it is not limited to ADSL.

To configure the NAT, you need to know how you are connected to the Internet. If you are using a
modem (like ADSL, Cable etc), please select the Dial-up modem.
If you are connected through a switch, a router or some other device, please specify LAN.

As a NAT Network Interface, please select the network interface which connects the Bandwidth
Manager to the Internet.

The last option to configure is the DNS redirector. Please type here one of the DNS addresses specified
by your Internet service provider, or any other working DNS server. This option helps in those cases
when the customer has incorrectly configured DNS address. Bandwidth Manager will redirect client to the
correct address and the DNS query will be resolved.

Database Server

3 Database Server

3.1 Database Server

The Antamedia Database Server is an additional application that stores software database files
(including: users, statistic reports, action log database etc.). The Database Server installer is included in
the Bandwidth Manager installer which is available for download from Antamedia web site download
page (www.antamedia.com/download).

The Database server can be installed on the same computer as the Antamedia Bandwidth Manager or
some other computer. For small installations (100 simultaneous users) the Database Server can be
located on the same computer, assuming that such computer is fast enough to handle all the tasks.
Please use theTask Manager to monitor the system resources and the CPU usage. When idle, Bandwidth
Manager and Database Server do not show any significant CPU usage. However, with a large number of
concurrent users, the Bandwidth Manager and Database Server might reach 40-50% of CPU usage, and
this is a sign to move Database Server to the other computer.

On installing the Database Server, the Installer will start the ADBConfigurator (Antamedia Database
Configurator) which will perform the maintenance, update and add new database tables, stored
procedures, triggers etc.

Recommendation: To keep your database safe, please use UPS (Uninterruptible power supply) on the
computer where the Database Server is installed. In case of power issues, database will remain intact.
Power problems might lead to the corrupted database and cause downtime. You can learn more about
UPS in Wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Uninterruptible_power_supply

Repairing database: If you already have a database problem, please close the HotSpot and run
ADBConfigurator, which is located in the same folder as the Database Server. Select the Accounts tables
and click on the Repair button. In most cases the database can be fixed successfully.
