R: Indeed,it is well known that cells in the early developing embryo are exposed to low
oxygen levels. In hamsters and rabbits, for example, intrauterine oxygen concentrations
decrease during blastulation and implantation to 5.3 % O2 and 3.5 % O2, respectively
[28]. Thus, lowering the oxygen concentration from normoxic atmospheric levels (20 %
O2) to more physiological levels (25%O2 or atmospheric hypoxia) might be beneficial
in PSC cultures due to the importance of this environmental condition during embryonic
development.
