Activity The teacher will begin lesson by turning on the Smartboard and bringing up the Contributions of the Roman Empire Smartboard activity on URL: http://exchange.smarttech.com/details.html?id=040b29ce- de6c-4df1-90e0-0146729b7635 The teacher will use the Smartboard lesson to review and analyze how Roman achievements and contributions in art and architecture, technology and science, medicine, literature and history, language, religious institutions and law influenced Western civilization. The teacher will read slides 1 and 2 to give an overview of the lesson and will demonstrate how to use the Smartboard pen. Teacher will read slides 3, 6 and 8. On slide 3 teacher will have students brainstorm contributions of the Roman Empire, on slide 6 teacher will discuss with students which engineering contribution they think would have been most useful to the Roman people and on slide 8 teacher will have students guess the English word (from Latin) before they flip over the file. On slides 3, 4, 6, 8, 10 and 11, teacher will select students one by one to complete the Smartboard activities. The students will use the Smartboard pen to drag and drop, flip, pull popup, click, circle, highlight, or write in the correct answers into the correct location on the Smartboard. For the response questions on slides 5, 7 and 9, students will use classroom devices (iPad or laptop). Students will login with student assigned passcodes to connect to the Smartboard lesson and select the correct answers. The teacher will ask students to assist a peer when a peer is stuck and needs help to complete the activity. Teacher will prompt students only when needed.
