A pleasurable or positive emotional state resulting from the appraisal of one's job or job
experiences is defined as job satisfaction. "Long hours, Hundreds of E-mail and no sleep; does
this sound like a satisfying job?" this case represent four individual example where this four
individual heading the top level management in different organization, are engrossed with their
work responsibility and hectic schedule. This case is basically based on "Personal satisfaction is
When people speak of employee attitudes, they usually mean job satisfaction. Job satisfaction or
employee satisfaction has been defined in many different ways. Some believe it is simply how
content an individual is with his or her job, in other words, whether or not they like the job or
individual aspects or facets of jobs, such as nature of work or supervision. Satisfaction level of
the people working in corporate in high roles differ with respect to every person's pleasure in
performing the job. Some people are crestfallen as they have to minimize their vacation tenure
and return to company's work. Overall study help us to develop an understanding on how job
satisfaction is derived in the organization and to get fabricate with the organization citizenship
behavior, work motivation and job involvement. By the progression of learning some interesting
things from case, we tried to find answers of four questions which later help us to give a

Is the only certain individual are attracted to these types
job or is it the characteristics of the jobs themselves that
are satisfying?
This jobs are highly time consuming, often very stressful these sorts of jobs keep the employees
away from their families. Thus only certain individuals are attracted to these types of jobs. These
The term workaholic refers to various types of behavioral patterns, with each having its own
valuation. For instance, workaholics is sometimes used by people wishing to express their
devotion to one's career in positive terms. However, the term is more often used to refer to a
time on working, an inner compulsion to work hard, and a neglect of family and other social
relations. Researchers have found that in many cases, incessant work-related activity continues
even after impacting the subject's relationships and physical health. A workaholic is a person
who works compulsively. While the term generally implies that the person enjoys their work, it
can also alternately imply that they simply feel compelled to do it.

Mostly they give higher priority to professionalism than their personal life:
Job satisfaction purely depends on individuals and their attitude towards work. Many people
hope to have a job that allows them to do some activities after work and have a life outside the
company. They tend to disapprove jobs that include the characteristics of long hours of working
and travelling which often disable them to spend time with their families. Based on this case, we
observe that most of the employee they love to do work. Paolo, Irene, Tony and David show that
they are motivated and satisfied despite the condition imposed by their work.
Interesting and challenging work is a top motivator in the workplace. The work itself is a
stronger motivator than the compensation for the work. The four individuals displayed high
level of job satisfaction, job involvement and organizational commitment that enable them to
accept the hardships as a positive challenge. These individual are positive people because
negative people are usually not satisfied with their job. Also these individual have positive
core self-evaluation that contribute to their being more satisfied with their jobs even under
extreme conditions.
The jobs seem extreme in nature with exceptional long and irregular hours of more than the
normal 40-hours work week, constant travels and serious lack of work-life balance. These
individual are willing to sacrifice family time for job sake. Usually such of people enjoy taking
such challenges in work places and they are conscious of titles and high status.

What Characteristics of these jobs might contribute to
increased levels of job satisfaction?
High profile people like to be dominant and control the situation rather being controlled by the
situation and always remain in high energy. Job satisfaction can be achieved by being
independent, remain positive, being significant, challenge oriented, skilled and being
responsible. From the given case study following characteristics have been analyzed,
John Bishop: During his vacation he spent most of the time in hotel room in California with his
Blackberry, while his wife Ellen chatted with other guests. He have more development scope,
Irene: Irene Tse heads the government bond-trading division about 10 years. She says she hasnt
slept through the night in years and often wakes up several times to check the global market
status. She can count on the fingers of the hand the number of days in her career when she didnt
Tiny kruz: Tony Kurz is a managing director at Capital Alliance Partners, and raises funds for
real estate investments. He often flies to exotic locations to woo prospective clients. He is
independent, serious and inspiring characteristics. High profile, high salary and travels to exotic
locations.

David CLark: David Clark is the vice president of global marketing for MTV. His job often

Given that the four individuals we just read about tend to be
satisfied with their jobs, how might this satisfaction relate to
their job performance, citizenship behavior and turn over?
Job Performance:
Good performance gives a job satisfaction where employees can serve better and convince their
customers and it eventually increases the loyalty and retention. Individuals show their best to
Citizenship Behavior:
Being flexible in citizenship behavior provides a good job performance. John Bishop and Irene
Tse willingly provide job performance better than before and provide a positive exposure about
their work.
Tony Krutz and David Clark offer excellent job performance keep neutral views about the
citizenship behavior. They don't seems to be performing better, neither have they offered any

Turn Over:
This individuals give negative turn over for the job satisfaction. John Bishop and Irene have high
motivation about their work and serve beyond the expectation of an organization. Whereas Krutz
and Baker are satisfied due to the travelling opportunities they get in their job. Besides a tough
routine and tight schedule which make their personal life a big difficult they maintain the job

Recall David Clark's statement that There are plenty of
people who would love to have this job .They are knocking at
the door all the time. How might Clark's perceptions that he
has a job many others desire contribute to his job satisfaction?
David Clark is satisfied due to the high demand of his job which makes him keep his position.
unsatisfied they might be the first to leave. Some individuals like the pressure of knowing that
others are in hunt of that job. It forms a basis of pride for them.
