Why is Building Period Important?

Related to mass and stiffness of building
Stiffness affects drift and motion perception
Period Building Period T
Mass affects wind forces
Mass affects seismic forces
T =f{ ( mass / stiffness ) }
Mass affects motion perception
Period affects Gust Effect Factor, thus p
Buildings with high periods interact more with the wind
Note:
mi = wi / g floor i
Higher Period T is conservative (opposite from n mi ki = story stiffness floor i
seismic!) T=4
i=1 ki wi = weight floor i
Higher T is softer more flexible building
