Intercontinental Development Institute (IDI) is based in Washington, D.C., United
States of America. It is a leader in international training, promoting development

institutional strengthening programs, primarily through highly effective short-term

The IDI's unique approach to training is based on an Interactive learning method.


It allows trainees to exchange and gain hands-on experience in countries where
systems have been tried and tested and also learn the tools & methods that
produced and maintain such systems. In addition to lectures, participants
undertake group work, case study, exercises and simulated exercises, and
exposure visits: group business meetings at government agencies, and
international organizations and corporations.

These services are provided to the officials from developing countries,

NGOs and International Organizations to equip their personnel with critical
knowledge of processes, to ensure that the capacity building and
institutional strengthening is sustained.

It is our intention to have staff of institutions from developing nations get a hands-
on experience in countries where systems have been tried and tested and take
back practical experience to implement in their own institutions. IDI therefore
includes visits to actual institutions and seminars with experts in their field as part
of the training program.

B. IDIs Experience and Qualifications

IDI has provided training to enhance capacities of public and private sector officials
from Asia Africa and the Middle East regions. IDI clients include national/state/local
government agencies, multi- and bilateral development organizations, non-
governmental organizations, and private businesses. Courses are carefully tailored
based on participants background and expectations will be made practical and
participatory.

IDI has designed, developed and delivered training and capacity development
programs in developing countries in the areas of Legal and Judicial Reform,
Legislative Affairs Management, Climate Change, Project Management (Appraisal,
Supervision, Monitoring and Evaluation), International Procurement, Procurement
Audits and Evaluation, Alternative Dispute Resolution, Legislative Drafting,
Privatization and Post-Privatization, Anti-Corruption and Good Governance and
others areas. IDI also offers custom programs based on strategic needs and
demands of its clients.

IDIs training services which include the development, implementation, and


evaluation of all training courses and workshops, is managed by highly
experienced and qualified persons who have cross-cultural backgrounds. All of the
training programs feature site visits and study tours to allow participants the chance
to experience actual work in the field. The site visits serve as very useful and
practical complement to the financial, economic, legal, and technical presentations
included in the courses.

IDI seeks to strengthen the rule of law and good governance in developing
countries, and countries in transition, by strengthening judicial and local institutions
to promote a healthy legal framework for commerce, trade and investment and
protection of individual rights.

In the past IDI has offered the training programs and study tours attended by more
than 250 officials from Nigeria. Some of those programs were held in Canada,
Egypt, Netherlands, Nigeria, Malaysia, United Arab Emirates and United States of

C. General Overview of the Program

International Development Institute (IDI) proposes to conduct a two-week


training and study tour program for the members of your State Assembly. The
program will provide a thorough and intense focus on legislative process in the
US government federal and state level and how they are applicable to your
local situations. In addition soft skills, like leadership and negotiation
techniques which are very important but often overlooked, will be covered.

The program will be conducted mainly in and around Washington, D.C. In
addition to site visits or interaction with officials from the U.S. Congress,
Maryland or Virginia State Capitol, Congressional Budget Office (CBO), and
National Conference of State Legislatures (NCSL) classroom lectures of key
topics will be provided. Certificate of participation will be issued to each
participant.

Transition to Washington, D.C

IDI works hard to ease the participants adaptation to Washington. Upon airport
arrival, participants will be met by an IDIs representative. They will be presented
with IDIs Guide to Washington as well as other information on the city. In an
orientation session on the first day, they will be given basic information about the

neighborhood and the surroundings, advised on where to buy phone/SIM cards.
Instruction on how to use public transportation and taxis will be given. Throughout
the program, IDI staff will be available to the participants to solve personal or
administrative problems, and otherwise provide a productive environment for
learning

Course Materials

IDI will provide various reference materials for the participants during in advance
of the course.

Program Evaluation

IDI conducts daily evaluation of each seminar/visits. Anonymous written


evaluations are collected daily, covering the importance of the topic/visit and the
speakers ability to convey it effectively. Final written and oral evaluations are also
conducted at the end of each course. These evaluations make it possible to select
the best faculty for each course and to adjust the course content to meet the
changing needs of our participants.

Housing and Travel

We understand that IDI will identify and arrange for hotel accommodations for the
participants and other members of the delegation. IDI course coordinator will
facilitate the program and accompany the group to its meetings and sessions in
different locations.

Program Fee

USD 4,000/per person for minimum of 12 participants


(fee will cover tuition, training materials, site visits, local transportation, social
events and refreshments during the training sessions. Participants pay for their
own travel and accommodations)
