MY SOVIET PASSPORT IN DORIAN ROTTENBERGS TRANSLATION

The article is devoted to the analysis of the English translation of Mayakovskis poem My soviet passport. This poem was
written and first published in 1929 year. The author of English variant is Dorian Rottenberg. Dorian Rottenberg used in his transla-
tion very different lexical, grammatical, stylistic transformations. A sufficient number of lexical additions within a single text high-
lights the need (in terms of the interpreter) to express the meaning of the original accurately and clearly. For example, a
customs official , folks hand in their passports ,
twisting rattlesnake etc. If it is necessary to explain the translating image more detail the transla-
tor includes some additional constructions. For example, as if rocked by a ship , hardly deigning to touch
them , where my documents are etc. Sometimes the
translator transforms the whole image reproducing it with other means. For example, donkeyness ,
like a bee to be nipped by the wings , as if he
has smelled disaster etc. In this translation there are also used others approaches, but this does
not reduce the quality of the translation.
