Depending upon the availability of parts a company can manufacture


3,4,5 or 6 units of a certain item per week with probabilities 0.1, 0.4,
0.3 and 0.2 respectively. The probability that there is weekly demand
for 0, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7 or 8 is 0.05, 0.10, 0.30, 0.30, 0.10, 0.05, 0.05,
0.04 and 0.01 respectively. If a unit is sold during the week it is
made, it will yield a profit of Rs. 100/ - and this profit is reduced by
Rs. 20/- for each week that the unit has to be stored. Use random
numbers for simulating the operation of this company for next 10
consecutive weeks and estimate their expected weekly profit.
Assumed that there is delayed supply reduced the profit by Rs. 30/-
per week. Take the random numbers for the manufacturing and the
demand of the units as follows:

2. A bread vendor buys loves of bread every morning at Rs. 0.45 each by
placing an order in Advance ( at the time of receiving his previous

next day at Rs. 0.20 per loaf and there after should be treated as of no
value. The pattern of demand for the bread is given below.

printed price on the paper is Rs 4/, but he gets it from the publishers
for Rs 3/-. The daily demand for news paper is a random variable

5. A book store wishes to carry a famous book in stock. Demand is
probabilistic and replenishment of stock takes 2 days (i.e. if an order is

Each time an order is placed, the store incurs an ordering cost of Rs 100/-

store decides to order 8 books when inventory at the end of the day plus
orders out standing is less than 8 books.
Simulate for 15 days and estimate
i) Number of order to be placed, ii) total inventory cost.

6. A warehouse has one dock. It is used to unload rail-road freight cars.


Incoming freight cars are delivered to the warehouse during the night. It
takes exactly half a day to unload a car (i.e. only 2 cars can be unloaded
during the day). If more than 2 cars are waiting to be unloaded on a day,
the remaining cars are unloaded on the following day. Past experience
has shown that the number of cars arriving during the night has following
frequencies.

arriving during the next 15 days. And hence find the average number of cars
