This document summarizes a research study on the phytoplankton community structure in the waters around East Penjaliran island in Indonesia. The study was conducted in April 2015 across 4 stations around the island, where samples were taken to analyze phytoplankton species and environmental parameters. The results found 205 phytoplankton species from 5 divisions across the stations. Phytoplankton abundance ranged from 561,000 to 1,801,000 cells/L and biodiversity indices ranged from 3,458 to 3,863. Analysis showed even distribution of species and no dominant species, and water conditions were suitable for phytoplankton growth.

Siska Amelia Kuscintari PHYTOPLANKTON COMMUNITY STRUCTURE IN THE WATERS OF EAST PENJALIRAN ISLAND KEPULAUAN SERIBU DKI JAKARTA xi + 59 pages, 2 tables, 6 pictures, 12 attachments
Indonesia is an archipelagic country which territory mainly consists of sea. Indonesia
holds a priceless biodiversity potential, one of them being planktons as part of the biodiversity from the sea ecosystem. Phytoplanktons can be found in every water mass, from the surface to depths with enough sunlight intensity to enable photosyntesis. This research was carried out on the 3rd to the 5th of April 2015 at East Penjaliran island, Kepulauan Seribu district, Jakarta. The research purpose was to discover the community structure of the phytoplankton in the waters around East Penjaliran island which is located in the 2nd core area of the Kepulauan Seribu DKI Jakarta Marine National Park. Samples of phytoplankton and environmental parameters in East Penjaliran island were taken from 4 stations which were divided into 3 spots each to represent the island entirely. The coordinates of each station were recorded using a Global Positioning System (GPS) device. The north station was located at 48 M 0674099 m E 9396940 m S; east station 0674349 m E 9396405 m S; south station 0673740 m E 9396138 m S and west station 0673415 m E 9396300 m S. The time of the extraction of samples ranges from 10:00 to 15:00 local time. Phytoplanktons extracted from East Penjaliran island consist of 5 divisions divided into 6 classes, 10 orders, and 205 species. The overall abundance of species of the phytoplanktons extracted from each station range from 561.000 to 1.801.000 cells/L. The biodiversity of phytoplanktons in the waters of East Penjaliran island was relatively high with index values ranging from 3,458 to 3,863, and based on the Hutchinson test there were differences on each station. The evenness index and the dominance index of the phytoplanktons show that the spreading of the phytoplankton species in the waters of the East Penjaliran island was even and there were no dominant species. Based on the environmental parameters, the overall condition of the waters of the East Penjaliran island is relatively good for the growth and development of the phytoplanktons.
