Cabaret Las Vegas opens its doors at around eleven at night. The shows usually
start at 1a.m. and include dance, comedy sketches and drag performances. The
regulars include foreigners and local Cubans. The cover is 3 CUC. An excellent
place for everyone that loves to have a few drinks and a good time. Just Go! Best
night is Sunday, but Friday and Saturday are usually good also. A lot of local gay
Cubans come here hoping to nd tourists that will buy them drinks.

The National Theaters Caf Habana has long been the venue of Proyecto Divino,
one of Havanas spaces aimed at the LGBT sector that has been o cially
recognized by Cuban authorities and is sponsored by the National Center for

Opened in May 2013, the hot sta , comfortable setting, and welcoming vibe at this,
Havanas rst full-time, openly-gay bar, make for a fun night out, regardless of
orientation. Theres plenty of seating, big screen TVs showing music videos
(Cuban artists are well-represented), and dont be surprised if you nd the decent-
sized dance oor swirling with men dancing some serious salsa. Theres also a
disco ball and a back room for smoking cigars. A talented opera duo perform
Wednesdays; other days youll nd karaoke and drag performances.

Centro Vasco Calle 3ra, esquina 4, Vedado

While not a gay bar per se, the crowd here is gay friendly, with lots of bisexual
men. Located close to the Meli Cohba hotel, this is one of the best locations if
you want a low-key inexpensive venue with a good atmosphere. Its Basque
owner opened this in 1954 as a restaurant. The dcor is unexceptional inside,
however it is fun and lively, with varied entertainment and shows each night.

scene. At night, the intersection at Malecon and the hill where the Hotel Nacional

Malecon

The Malecon seawall is classic Cuba. The sunset is stunning and romantic. It never
fails to amaze you, unless, of course, a rain threatens the late afternoon spectacle.
In Malecon, people from all walks of life congregate, especially in late afternoon
till late evening. Walk the seawall from the edge of Prado (Paseo de Marti) all the
way to Hotel National, which is the uno cial gay section.

Bim Bom
More conveniance store than bar, the Bim Bom is more or less Cubas equivalent
of a scaled-back 7-11. Situated on a dimly lit street corner, in the shadow of the
historic Hotel Nacional, the Bim Bom is swarmed on Friday and Saturday nights
with hundreds of mostly gay men and transsexuals. This no-frillsgathering spot
boasts no loud music, no disco ball lights and no dance oor, just gay Cubans
socializing and enjoying the company of one another. A block away, the more
intimate Piropo is a popular smoke- lled hang out that has the feel of a caf,
although no food is served. Piropo isalso better lit and attracts more of a middle-
aged crowd.

The most famous gay beach in Cuba is close to Havana (15 miles away) and goes

get asked to join them in a game of beach volleyball. It gets crowded here on the
weekends, and often you will see beach parties, with the guys dancing perreo (a
dance to reggaeton music).

The best way to get here is by cab, and the fare will be about 15 CUC from Old
Havana. You can also take the Hop on Hop O bus that leaves from Parque
Central in Havana Vieja. If your cab driver doesn't know where Mi Cayito is, ask
them to drop you o at Boca Ciega - it is next to Mi Cayito. There is a little beach
restaraunt called Las Palmitas by the beach parking lot which o ers great and
cheap hamburgers, snacks, and drinks. You can rent chairs for $3 for the whole
day, and beach umbrellas for $4.
