Message From Presidente Dayton

Our Unique Understanding of Families in the Restored Gospel

In 1843, the Prophet Joseph Smith received the revelation that taught us about the eternal
nature of families when he revealed Section 132. It says, Therefore if a man marry a wife by
my word, and by the new and everlasting covenant , and it is sealed unto them by the Holy
Spirit of promiseye shall come forth in the first resurrection. And shall inherit thrones,
kingdoms, principalities, and powersand shall be of full force when they are out of the
world; and they shall pass by the angels, and the gods, which are set there to their exaltation
and glory in all things.and a continuation of the seeds forever and ever.they have no end;
therefore shall they be from everlasting to everlasting, because they continue (D&C
132:19-20) The Prophet Joseph Smith was the spokesman of the Lord when this glorious
doctrine was revealed, demonstrating that families can truly be together forever. It is a
doctrine which is unique to the Church of Jesus Christ. I am not aware of another church,
faith group, or people that have the complete understanding of this celestial law other than
the Restored Church. What a beautiful and lofty doctrine it is. Families CAN be together
forever by the sealing power of the Melchizedek Priesthood. Families play the central role as
the unit designed by our Heavenly Father to bring us happiness in this life and exaltation in the
world to come. Often times, people embrace this doctrine immediately when they hear it for
the first timedespite what their own faith teaches on the subject. It has a ring of familiarity to
it, they remember it from the pre-mortal life.

According to Preach My Gospel (PMG), the message of the Restoration of the gospel blesses
families. That is because we understand Gods purpose for families. The great plan of
happiness enables family relationships to be perpetuated beyond the grave. Sacred
ordinances and covenants available in holy temples make it possible for individuals to return
to the presence of God and for families to be united eternally. The blessings of family are not
limited to the hereafter, however. By living the principles of the gospel, families can
experience peace, joy, and a sense of belong and identity in this life. The Proclamation on
the Family reminds us that, Happiness in family life is most likely to be achieved when
founded upon the teachings of the Lord Jesus Christ. PMG then admonishes us to strive to
find and teach families.who can support one another in living the gospel and eventually be
sealed as a family unity by restored priesthood authority.

PMG continues, Because families are ordained of God, they are the most important social
unit in time and eternity. God has established families to bring happiness to His children, allow
them to learn correct principles in a loving atmosphere, and prepare them for eternal life. A
home established on gospel principles will be a place of refuge and safety. It will be a place
where the Spirit of the Lord can abide.

The basic unit of the Church is the family. The divine plan of happiness enables family
relationships to endure beyond the grave. Marriage, however, can be eternal only when
authorized priesthood holders perform the sealing ordinance in sacred temples and the couple
keep their covenants. Satan understands the power of a righteous covenant family and will do
everything he can to attack it. Family home evening, scripture study as a family and family
prayer night and morning all help ward off the attacks of the evil one.

As we go out to share the gospel, we need to be assertive and bold in teaching this doctrine.
The Restoration of the gospel blesses families. It is a true doctrine revealed to a living prophet. It
is the Saviors wayso it will bring more happiness than anything man can come up with.
Addressing the importance of the family with those you meet each day will help you find people
to teach. Most people have a natural interest in families. Bringing an entire family into the
Church increases the likelihood of retention because the family will support one another. Wards
and branches experience real growth when families are baptized and embrace the gospel.

My prayer is that we as the missionary force of the Spain Barcelona Mission will begin to see the
value of teaching families in a new light. I would encourage all of our missionaries to boldly
approach families with this message. Sometimes it is difficult to approach families because of
the complexity and challenge of teaching more than one person (on whom you can focus).
Nevertheless, the Lord will bless you and lift you up as on eagles wings as you do so. Pray to find
a family. Look for families to approach. Be fearless in contacting what appear to be family
groups. May the Lord bless you to find the families prepared to hear the everlasting gospel here
in Spain is my prayer.

Message From Hermana Dayton

ORDERLINESS VS CONFUSION

Orderliness is keeping everything that is under my jurisdiction neat, clean, functional, and in its
proper place. Confusion is the opposite of orderliness.

In the scriptures we clearly see that the Lord is a God of order. Alexander Pope said,
"Orderliness is the first law of heaven." We know that God created the earth with light and
then darkness. He designed the day to be for work and the night to be for rest. He created
the waters and the land with some animals to survive on land and others to survive in the
water. He created scavenger animals, regular rain, and caused dead matter to decompose
and return to dust all to have order and cleanliness on earth. On the sixth day he created
man and then on the seventh day he declared it to be a day of rest. God formed all in the
earth to function with the ability to reach their potential. The Savior also demonstrated
orderliness as He organized His church. He overthrew the money changers at the temple
declaring, "my Father's house is a house of order." In 1 Corinthians 14:33, 40 we read, "God is
not the author of confusion, but of peace...but all things be done decently and in order."
Clearly we can see that orderliness is important.

In the D&C 88:119 we read, "Organize yourselves, prepare every needful thing, and establish
a house, even a house of prayer, a house of fasting, a house of faith, a house of learning, a
house of glory, a house of ORDER, a house of God."

One of the first things we can do to get organized is to follow a wise schedule. As missionaries,
the schedule is designed in such a way to help us accomplish our missionary purpose. I have
seen my 6 children go into the mission field and return home very focused, very organized
and acomplishing far more each day than they had the ability to accomplish before serving.
The habits we are creating here in Spain will go with us following the mission and we will be
more productive, and as a result, more happy and fulfilled.

Orderliness is having a place for everything and everything in its place. Elder and Hermana
Morejon often instruct us to keep our pisos in good working order with light bulbs changed,
repairs reported, and possessions maintained. During our recent zone conferences, the
assistants taught that if our desk is clean and orderly then our study is more productive. Clutter
is the enemy of order because it breeds filth and confusion and robs us of peace. All of us
have heard, "Cleanliness is next to Godliness" in fact, cleanliness is a part of Godliness. When
things are in order our minds can better function in organizing our thoughts.

The assistants also taught us an orderly and organized way we can do personal studies by
utilizing the new study journals. This tool will help us remember those things that we learn and
then be able to use that knowledge as we teach lessons, interact with others and remind
ourselves of truths. The assistants also created a new program for piso checks to help us
maintain a clean and orderly apartment. They
taught that as we organize and clean our pisos we invite the spirit of the Lord to be in them.
When the spirit is present, our behavior is more in line with the will of the Lord. It produces the
fruit of the spirit, "The fruit of the spirit is love, joy, peace, long suffering, gentleness, goodness,
faith, meekness, temperance..." Galations 5:22-23.

As a little girl growing up, my parents often told me that each Saturday I would arise early, go
to their room with a pad and pencil and ask for my Saturday jobs. The rule in our home was
that you had to do your Saturday chores before you could play. I always wanted a full day of
play so I would work as hard and as fast as I could so when everyone awoke Saturday morning
my jobs would be done and I was off and playing the rest of the day. A simple truth I learned
was when I accomplished the things most important first then I enjoyed the remainder of the
day much more. As missionaries, it is important for us to work smart--to do those things that are
most important that will bring the greatest rewards. When we go about our missionary work in
an orderly fashion we find we accomplish more and as a result we are more fulfilled.

There are many things we can do as missionaries to be orderly. We can stay on the missionary
schedule and plan each day well, organizing our day so we accomplish the most we can with
the time given. We can keep our possessions organized, orderly, and in proper repair. We can
pick up after ourselves as we leave a room, leaving it better than we found it. We can budget
wisely and resist the temptation to purchase more than there is time, money or space for. We
can also submit baptismal forms, intercambio forms and reimbursols in a timely manner.

President Dayton and I feel grateful for the many ways you create order in the mission. We are
grateful for your efforts in keeping your pisos and clothing clean and orderly, for the way you
effectively plan and carry out your missionary purpose.

We love you and enjoy working with you as we unitedly work to bring others to Christ.

The Miracle of Baptism

This Saturday, Iker was baptized!
The best part was the strength of
his testimony, the powerful
spoken testimony that he loves
to bear. He told me over and
over again that he could not
wait to be clean. I admire his
knowledge! I cannot wait for
the day he serves a mission and
the day his family is sealed in the
temple. The spirit proclaimed his
power the moment Iker entered
the water. My heart burned
within me and I knew the
heavens were rejoicing.
Our miracle for this week was
seeing Ricardo get baptized
and receive the Holy Ghost!!! It
was so beautiful. He is so Esta semana tuvimos un
prepared. He arrived early to
the church to try on clothes,
and then he ended up having
time to sit and just look at the
font. He took getting baptized
very seriously and understands
the covenant that he made. It
was so sweet. And then when
we showed him the baptismal
program with his name on it he
just cried and cried. He told us
over and over again that he's
waited so long for this. Ah it
makes me so happy:)) He's solid.
I feel SO blessed to get to be his luego lo llamamos al da

example of humility and faith.

great job. Daniela and I sat in

de telfono..... Nos fuimos teniendo grandes cambios y
super felices por ver ese muchos milagros.

The Miracle of Baptism

We have been so blessed this
week to have had a baptism
down here in _______. Also
super happy that you and
Hermana Dayton were able
to make it down. Josefina
and her family have been
amazing and it has been
amazing to see the gospel
take effect in their lives.
Luckily for us through recent
converts and members of the
ward we should be putting in
a lot more work in this next
transfer.
The miracle of the week
would definitely be Precious. I
met her last Saturday when
she came to our stake
conference. Turns out she
had already come another
time and the first words out of
her mouth when we started
teaching her was that she
wanted to be baptized. We
hadn't made an invitation yet
but she had seen the baptism
we had right after stake
conference and she wanted
to be baptized. So she asked
us if she could be baptized.
She had some minor
problems to work through but
we prepared her for baptism
and she was baptized
Saturday and I confirmed her
Sunday. It was a really special
event for me because that
was the first person I've ever
confirmed into the church. It
was great to see how much
her testimony had grown just
in one week and to see her
accept the gospel in her life.
So this week we had the
amazing miracle of a
baptism-- baptism of a ready
young women named Paula,
the sister of our recent
convert Giovanny. She was
so ready it was amazing. We
have been teaching her for a
while and she was always a
little scared and nervous. She
is a very timid person in
general. But man when she
came back from the font all
changed the smile on her
face was so priceless. She
was clean and she knew she
was. I love watching people
enter into this sacred
covenant with their Heavenly
Father. Just to see the
change in a person when
they enter the waters of
baptism is a special
experience every time. This
one was even more special
for me because this last
Saturday was my birthday.
And nothing was better than
to watch one of your friends
be baptized on your birthday.
I absolutely loved it.
On Sunday we were able to
watch as our great new
friend Oyinda joined our
Savior by being baptized! It
was so great. On Saturday
we were supposed to have
the baptism of Oyinda. We
confirmed it with her two
hours before she was going
to meet us as well. We were
super excited but then the
time for us to meet up rolls
around and she didn't show
and then did not show the
entire day. She told us later
that her father forced her to
run some errands and for
that she could not make it.
So then on Sunday we
decided that we would do
the baptismal service. She
came to church and then
after church her, the branch
president Josep, Elder _____
and I drove to a nice
secluded beach and
performed the ordinance of
the baptism there. It was
very nice and simple. Then
we gave her the Holy Ghost
right there and that was the
service. It was nothing short
of a miracle. Her entire story
is a miracle. From the time
she contacted us to her
baptism it has been a
nonstop miracle.

May in Spain. For those of you that have
their mothers and family in the Spain, call
this week. Those of us with mothers and
