Introduction

Bullying is a repeated unwanted aggression between individuals causing an imbalance in

power and control of a situation. It is also a severe verbal or physical act or gesture towards other

students that latter could be the effect of depression, social interaction anxiety and having low

self-esteem of the victim. Bullying occurs in every school public or private whether it might be

physically, socially, and/or verbally. An example of being physically bullied would be being

punched, hit, making fun of or even calling the victim in different names. Having a physical and

emotional harm or even damage to his/her property could create a hostile environment at school

for the other children and could be the reason of having fear attending schools.

A survey that was conducted shows that one up to two Filipino children witnesses

violence or abuse in schools. Thus, it proved that students in the schools of Philippine witness

the different types of bullying, which might be verbal such as calling names, being made fun

of, or it might be social such as letting the child out of activities by others, or making the

student do things he/she did not want to make it in the first place (No Bullying.com). The issues

of bullying are always present but it is increasing day after day that is why the Philippine

government took step and pays attention towards this issue and to stop the violence against

children.

On September 6, 2013, former president Noynoy Aquino signed republic act 10672 or

the Anti bullying Act of 2013, which requires all elementary and secondary schools in the

Philippines to adopt policies to prevent and address bullying in their institutions. Under the law,

bullying acts include cyber-bullying, inflicting physical harm to student, utterance of slanderous

accusations, such as the use of profanities name calling and commenting negatively on the
victims looks, clothes and body, which may cause the victim undue emotional distress. (Tyrone

M. Reyes, M.D. 2014).

Victims of bullying can suffer from social and emotional development. These victims

may have a hard time making lasting relationships with peers due to fear of being bullied again.

Also, victims often try to mask the fact that they are being bullied when it truly hurts their

feelings.

Some studies say that the effects of bullying on a childs self-esteem can be devastating

long after the bullying stops. Even a child who is only bullied once in his or her life can suffer

long-lasting effects and one of these effects are having a low self-esteem and being aloof in

terms of having a social interaction and up until now there are cases in schools that bullying is

still existing and some of the victims refuse to go back to school and study because of the fear

that they might be bullied again.

Bullying can cause many effects in ones life perhaps it could take as motivation but most

of the time it could lead to depression or anxiety in social interaction. When kids are bullied and

their self-esteem begins to suffer, they start to feel more shameful and afraid of life. Victims of

bullying begin to believe that they dont have the confidence to face any situation in which their

bully might target them, causing them to fear going to school or feel ashamed when bullies taunt.
