    The opening notes of the Star Trek theme were inspired by four notes from Gustav Mahler's Symphony No. 1 from 1888, which were in turn inspired by Johannes Brahms' Symphony No. 2 from 1877, which was inspired by Ludwig Van Beethoven's Symphony No. 4 from 1806. The subsequent fanfare in the Star Trek theme was derived from Gustav Mahler's Symphony No. 7.

    Gustav Mahler Symphony No.1 written in 1888, which was taken from
    Johannes Brahms Symphony No.2 written in 1877, which was taken from

    Following the "Four Notes" the following fanfare (beginning with the doo de'doooo) comes from
    Gustav Mahler's Symphony No. 7, first movement
