The documents I chose were, Fugitive Slave Act and The Gettysburg Address.

I believe
studying American history also involves about Constitution and laws. So I would like to talk
about one of the most important US presidents, Abraham Lincoln that it was also an attorney
related to a document that talks about rules in 1850. I know that both documents are not
related, but I just want to associate an important lawyer with an interesting rule at that time.

Fugitive Slave Act

1. I found out by reading this document that the Fugitive Slave Act allowed independent
agents to cross borders between States that allow slavery to States that did not allow
slavery.
2. The intention of this act was to push States that did not allow slavery to cooperate
with States that allow slavery. The reason for that was to return all the fugitive slaves
to their owners.
3. The act was legal because at that time there was a civil war in the United States. So
many States needed slaves.

The Gettysburg Address

1. The Battle of Gettysburg was one of the most bloody conflicts. Throughout three days
of combats, over 45000 people were killed or seriously injured. The battle was
between States from the South against States from North.
2. The speech of Gettysburg is one of the most important speeches in the US history, the
most well-known speech from Abraham Lincoln, possibly the most admired American
president.
3. In Abraham Lincoln speech the main purpose was to reflect that the civil war was not
only to save the country but the battle it was for freedom and equality to all the
American citizens.
4. FOURSCORE and seven years ago our fathers brought forth on this continent a new
nation, conceived in liberty and dedicated to the proposition that all men are created
equal.Famous passage, Ive heard, but Ive never realized that Lincoln was thinking
about the nation without any judgment, he was a true president that managed to
make the US free.
5. Now we are engaged in a great civil war, testing whether that nation or any nation so
conceived and so dedicated, can long endure. We are met on a great battle-field of
that war. We have come to dedicate a portion of that field as a final resting-place for
those who here gave their lives that that nation might live. It is altogether fitting and
proper that we should do this,In this part, it is clear that Lincoln wanted to bring both
parts into concordance, without pointing out who was right or wrong. He just wanted
to show to the people that the nation is more important than internal conflicts.
6. But, in a larger sense, we cannot dedicate-we cannot consecrate-we cannot hallow-
this ground. The brave men, living and dead, who struggled here, have consecrated it
far above our poor power to add or detract. This passage, we can see that Lincoln its
begin optimistic about the future, with all that happened to the US.
7. The world will little note nor long remember what we say here, but it can never
forget what they did here. It is for us, the living, rather, to be dedicated here to the
unfinished work which they who fought here have thus far so nobly advanced. It is
rather for us to be here dedicated to the great task remaining before us-that from
these honored dead we take increased devotion to that cause for which they gave the
last full measure of devotion; that we here highly resolve that these dead shall not
have died in vain; that this nation, under God, shall have a new birth of freedom; and
that government of the people, by the people, for the people, shall not perish from the
earth Lincoln wanted to motivate people who were listening to his speech. Showing
that lives that were lost cannot be disregarded, everything that happened was for the
good of the country.

Take Away:

These two documents make me believe that US history was not just important for Americans,
but also worldwide. Many people were inspired by Lincoln because his speeches touch all the
people. Also, it was super interesting the way how the Fugitive Slave Act was elaborated, it
seems that it was created to protect the owner of slaves. In addition, this Act collaborated on
the delaying the abolition of slavery in the US.
