I created a Google Form to survey the staff and get an understanding of what they think
about ethical/unethical behaviors in the school.

Survey

Results from the survey

Teachers and administrators within the same school should have meetings and
discussions about clear disciplinary steps consequences for behaviors so everyone is
consistent following a clear school wide plan (2)
school district only looks out for themselves staffing not a consideration on most issues.
offer job related trainings or courses that can help in advancement in the school system.
We really don't have any trouble with this. But if there are people that are being unethical
than they would need to be addressed individually.
Both are present in WCPS. Teachers should have random drug tests.
Proper behaviors should be exemplified by the entire district. It is important for behaviors
to be modeled by superintendents, administration, etc.
I feel it is unethical to reduce a child to a number that he receives on a test. We need to
look at and respect the entire child and how he has made growth in many areas. We also
need to provide support to help each child grow to his full potential. I feel it is unethical
that a school, such as ours with 50% FARM's rate, does not receive any federal monies.
The formula needs to be looked at and changed. Our students do not receive the help they
need because we do not have the staff to meet them due to lack of funding. I also feel that
it is unethical to not have a full time GATE teacher to meet the needs of our highest level
students.
Honestly never thought of this in the broad sense as described here but on a more
personal level to what I feel is appropriate. Considering current educational environment
maybe it is a training we should participate in annually even if by powerpoint.
Mandatory courses online should be taken by every employee and signed. Renewed
every two years. If someone has displayed unethical behavior depending on the severity
of the behaviors it should result in immediate termination to additional training classes.
Survey, identify problem, work together to create a plan to solve them
I find unethical behaviors to exist when individuals in positions of power make decisions
without following proper procedures.
Culturally relevant pedagogy
I believe it is unethical for administrators to show favoritism toward faculty or to
deliberately deny a faculty member opportunities to participate in leadership roles within
a school
A district's beliefs about unethical behavior, and the consequences for them, should be
clearly stating in the hiring process. Any additional training about ethics should be at the
school's level, unless the district board wants to address a certain issue.
Teachers need a safe outlet to express and share when they or others have been subjected
to unethical treatment or immoral activity without fear of repercussions. Particularly
when the teacher has been verbally threatened as to what will be done to them if they
report the unethical behavior by said administrator.
Unfortunately lots of politics are involved even in public schools, it seems those
connected to admins seem to get the promotions and are not always held to the same
standards, no answers to correcting this, just a perspective.

Recommendations

It would seem that many teachers feel that there are politics occurring in the county. I
suppose at a county level it would be possible for administrators to help the careers of
some individuals more than others. I would have to agree that it is unethical for
administrators to show favoritism towards faculty members. To help with this maybe
administrators need to be made aware that this behavior is occurring and make sure that
staff feels included.
I believe showing favoritism can happen in a school building. There are always those
teachers that are selected for tasks and get the new shiny technology in their
classroom. It should be part of the administrators professional development to help
alleviate any of this in a building. I have seen it divide the staff and many teachers got
upset and disappointed when they were excluded from a professional development of
other types of school wide initiatives.
o Having a union would help in this because teachers could talk to the union
representatives and be advised to see what can be done.
Overall, I feel that people are ethical and treat everyone as professionals. Our school
does an excellent job of treating everyone on the staff with respect. There are cases
where personalities clash but that doesnt hinder people from working together. I think
professional development and intervention would need to take place on an as needs basis
if this was occurring in a school. These types of behaviors doesnt apply to everyone so
not all staff members would have to listen to the staff development.
There would need to be clear expectations in the staff and student handbook on what the
consequences would be for unethical behaviors. It should also be noted what happens
when there are multiple offenses. If it is a teacher, this would help in dismissing a
teacher if they are not performing their necessary duties.
