Captain Nobody (themes)

1. Self-discovery
As a new boy who is small in size, Newton is often ignored by his parents,
schoolmates, and teachers.
When Newton uses the Captain Nobody costume for the first time, it turns him into
someone he himself doesnt recognise.
Newton feels strong and confident wearing the costume.
He is able to overcome his fear of heights when he helps Cecil to bring down a
discarded drum from a huge dumpster.
He helps Mr Clay to find his way home, foils a robbery at a jewellery store, saves a
ferret and averts a plane tragedy.

2. Friendship
JJ and Cecil drop by Newtons house the day after Chriss accident, each bringing him
a CD to cheer him up.
When Newton is feeling upset about Chriss condition and doesnt come up with a
Halloween costume, JJ and Cecil comfort him and help him create a new one.
When Newton shows up in his Captain Nobody costume in class for the first time,
everyone stares, sneers and laughs at him. Only Cecil gives him a thumbs-up and JJ
smiles at him.
When JJ and Cecil realize Newton is not happy to babysit ferocious, they keep him
company on his way home.

3. Responsibility
As 10-year old boy, Newton not only takes care of himself but also his family.
Newton offers to take over preparing breakfast for his family.
Assuming the identity of Captain Nobody, Newton helps others who are in need.
When Ferocious runs onto a busy highway, Newton feels he is responsible for
Ferociouss safety. He risks his life to save Ferocious.

4. Familiy love
Newton demonstrates understanding and support towards his family despite being
neglected.
Newton offers to take over preparing breakfast for his family after realizing his
mother is too busy to concentrate on the family every morning.
Newton takes good care of himself while his parents are busy at the hospital as he
does not want to burden his parents.
 Newton has a strong relationship with his brother, Chris.
When Newton was four, Chris taught him how to skate on their grandparents frozen
pond.
