CROCHET PATTERN. Menswear and crochet can be a
tricky mix. Its hard to find projects he will love to wear
and you will love to make. Whether it is a hat, mitts,
scarf, or even a sweater, it needs to be comfortable,
useful, and not fussy.

mens cabled fingerless gloves. Textured post stitches are
used to create crochet cables, the secret to these heavy-
duty mitts. Worked flat, they are then seamed up the side
with an opening left for the thumb. Cabled strips are worked
separately for an extra accent.
The Bearsden Plaid Scarf by Robyn Chachula is a great
mens scarf. The colorwork plaid is fun to work and is a great
accent piece This crochet plaid scarf looks classic enough for
his taste and interesting enough for your hook to enjoy.
The Waldo Sweater by Peter Franzi is a beautiful mens

Finishing
Positioning crossbands:
The bands have angled ends creating
sloping sides. The instructions that foll
will explain where to place the tops of
each band. Each mitt will have one short
band and one long band; short bands
should be placed first. It is best to pin
the bands in place before beg to sew in
order to make adjustments if necessary.
Fold the mitts in half along the 4 (6,
6) post sts in the middle of the rows of
the mitt and place the folded mitts on a
flat surface, side by side, with unseamed
edges facing each other. The folded edge
of each mitt is the outside edge. Place
the angled edge of each short band on
the ridge created when you first reversed
patt (locate m) in the top outside corner
of each mitt (upper left for left mitt and
upper right for right mitt). This will
allow the natural roll of the top edge of
the mitt to hide the edge of the short
band. Place the angled edge of each long
band on the same ridge in the opposite
corner. Place it over the short band to
completely cover the end of the short
band and bring the bottom corner of the
long band to the corner where the cuff
and the post sts at the side edge of the
mitt meet. The criss-cross should make a
leaning Y shape.
Carefully sew to mitt, as invisible as
possible, being sure to sew all edges.
Fold mitts inside out and whipstitch (see
Glossary) cuff side seams from bottom
edge up. Whipstitch mitt side seams
from very top edge (making sure top
edge is not rolled over) to within 2" of
cuff (leaving space for thumb). Weave in
all ends. Turn mitts RS out.
