Assignment Scenario
You work for a management consultancy firm, which offers professional advice to its
clients in relations to the management of knowledge, communication and information
systems.
You will be assigned variety of tasks by your Senior Executives. You have an
advisory
role and your managers expect you to deliver high quality services, by providing
accurate and effective advice to all the clients. Also, this assignment will
require you to
assess your communication skills and write a personal communication development
plan (for future development).
You are expected to provide examples, in relations to each question. The key is to
select organisations that you are familiar with (e.g. previous/existing employer or
an
organisation where you have easy access to the information required).
Note: This assessment covers ALL learning outcomes for this module (LO 1.0,
2.0, 3.0 and 4.0).

PART A (This part covers LO1 and LO4.)
Task 1 Scenario: You are required to choose an organisation from either of these
sectors/examples: (1) Estate Agents, (2) Airlines, (3) Hotels, or (4) Charities.
Give advice to the management of the selected business organisation. Your task is
to evaluate
the business environment, nature and operations of this business.
AC1.1 Discuss the range of decisions to be taken by your chosen business: Give
examples of
different decisions that may be helpful for your chosen organisation to stay
competitive in the
market.
AC1.2 Examine the information and knowledge needed to ensure effective decision
taking:
Describe what kind of information and knowledge are needed by your chosen
organisation (for
effective decision making and why?). Give examples of industry related information.
Some
general examples of the information and knowledge are: Qualitative and
quantitative, primary
and secondary, official and unofficial, etc.

Task 2 scenario: The management at your chosen organisation are planning to expand
their
business by developing new products and entering into new markets. Your task is to
guide
them throughout the planning and implementation phase of this expansion strategy by
answering all questions in Task 2 (LO4).

PART B (This part covers LO2 and LO3.)
AC2.2 Make contact with those identified and develop business relationships:
Propose a
strategy and suggest different methods (formal and informal) which can be used to
develop
business relationships with these stakeholders.
AC2.3 and AC2.4 Involve those identified in the decision making as appropriate, and
design
strategies for improvement: Exhibit how you will involve the key stakeholders in
decision
making (directly or via media, discuss the importance of trust and
confidentiality). Point out
various challenges that the management may have to face while involving these
stakeholders
in decision making, over the long run. Give suggestions/strategies about forming
strong
personal networking and business relationships with these stakeholders.

TASK 4 scenario: Use examples of your chosen organisation (where required) as well
as
personal examples (AC 3.4).
AC3.4 Create a personal plan to improve own communication skills: You are required
to
assess your communication skills and find out your strengths and weaknesses. List
the main
communication skills that you should improve and suggest different approaches for
implementation of your communications development plan. You should use a Personal-
SWOT
analysis and set SMART objectives for writing a Personal Communication Development
Plan.
