Q.No. 1. Attempt any FOUR of the following. Each part carries EQUAL marks.

a) Obtain the formula to calculate plastic moment of resistance of a propped cantilever beam
of span L carrying uniformly distributed load of W throughout the span.
b) Differentiate between static and kinematic indeterminacy.
c) Find out the shape factor for circular section.
d) Explain on what elements of flexibility matrix depends.
e) What is the effect of temperature in 3-hinged arch?

Q.No. 1. Attempt any FOUR of the following. Each part carries EQUAL marks.

a) Explain how two-hinged arches are analysed.

b) State and explain MULLER-BREASLAU principle along with assumptions.
c) What is the degree of kinematic indeterminacy of the beam shown in figure?

d) Give a suitable example for applications to 2D building frames.
e) Find out the maximum deflection for a fixed beam with central point load.

Q.No. 3. Attempt any TWO of the following. Each part carries EQUAL marks.

a) Find the radial shear normal thrust and bending moment at point L/4 from left supported

b) Analyse the continuous beam ABCD shown in Figure -2 if the middle support (B) Settles
by 15mm, using moment distribution method. Also sketch Bending Moment Diagram.

c) The span of simply supported bridge is 30 m and is crossed from left to right by a train of
six loads of magnitudes 10, 15, 25, 15, 15 and 10 kN leading load and distance between
them are 1.2 m, 1m, 0.8m, 0.8 m and 0.6 m respectively. Calculate the maximum bending
moment and shear force at a section 10 m from left end.
Q.No. 4. Attempt any TWO of the following. Each part carries EQUAL marks.

a) State and establish relation between flexibility and stiffness matrix.

b) Draw the schematic diagrams for horizontal thrust, bending moment at any section, radial
shear and normal thrust at any given section for a typical two- hinged symmetrical
parabolic arch.
c) Using the slope deflection method, Analyse the rigid frame shown in Figure-3.

Q.No. 5. Attempt any TWO of the following. Each part carries EQUAL marks.

a) A framed structure is subjected to lateral loads as shown in Figure -4 analyse the structure
using portal method and sketch BMD.

Figure-4

b) Three-hinged arch of span 16m and rise 3m is subjected to uniformly distributed load of
3t/m over left half span and 10t point load at 4m from right support as shown in Figure -5.
Analyse the arch and determine, i) Horizontal thrust @ A (ii) Radial shear, normal thrust
and bending moment @ 6m from left support.
