Rationale/Reflection

NAEYC Standard:
STANDARD 6. GROWING AS A PROFESSIONAL
Candidates prepared in early childhood degree programs identify and conduct themselves
as members of the early childhood profession. They know and use ethical guidelines and
other professional standards related to early childhood practice. They are continuous,
collaborative learners who demonstrate knowledgeable, reflective and critical
perspectives on their work, making informed decisions that integrate knowledge from a
variety of sources. They are informed advocates for sound educational practices and
policies.

Brief Description of Evidence:

As part of my ECED 120 Child Growth & Development course during the Summer semester of
2017, I completed an assignment titled Eriksons Eight Stages of Life Paper. I put the stages into
my own words and used real life examples to show my competence of each stage. This
assignment was an autobiography using the Eriksons Eight Stages of Life. I started by putting
Eriksons stages into my own words and then went on to write about my own life and which part
of each stage related to my life the most. This assignment goes well with the NAEYC Standard 6
because the standard says that it expects educators to use ethical guidelines.

Analysis of What I Learned:

I learned that with this assignment I was unable to complete all of the stages since I am only 20
years old. I learned a lot about myself when I was younger from the times I could not remember. I
was able to sit with my mom and ask her questions about my behavior as a child. I think it is
important to know what you were like as a child because this may have a bit of a connection to
who you are now and how you turned out the way you did and why. This assignment helped me
learn why certain people are the way they are. One of the stages talked about depression. I know a
lot of people who are very unhappy with their life and this assignment helped me realize that it is
most likely because they have never achieved the goals that they wished to achieve. They also
may not be content with where they are at that point in their life.

How This Artifact Demonstrates my Competence on the NAEYC Standard:

My competence in this standard is proven by completing this assignment because this assignment
helps me understand what possible stages children, their parents and my colleagues may be going
through. If I use my knowledge of these stages this will help me make the most rational and
realistic decisions when it comes to educating my children and working with their parents to
build necessary relationships to help promote the childrens growth and development.
