A Documentation:

CONTRACTOR shall include procedures for handling, storage, and Sch. Q -


A1 preservation of material as specified in all applicable specifications, Attachment IV,
manufacturer recommendations and SAUDI ARAMCOs standards Sec. 6

B General requirements:

GTAW filler metal shall have either the AWS/ASME identification or the
SAES-W-017,
B1 manufacturer's identification marked on each individual rod by the
Para. 6.3
manufacturer with tags ("flags"), stencil, or stamping.
Submerged Arc Welding Fluxes fused during welding shall not be reused SAES-W-017,
B2
(i.e., fluxes that use recrushed slag are not acceptable). Para. 6.5.2
Shielding gases shall conform to the following requirements:
1) AWS A5.32 Spec for Welding Shielding Gases (Attachment 1) SAES-W-017,

2) The requirements for other gases and gas mixtures shall be Para. 6.7
submitted to CSD for approval.
Non-Low Hydrogen electrodes A5.1 or A5.5 shall be stored in a dry
SAES-W-017,
B4 environment. Any electrodes that have become moist or wet shall not be

used and shall be discarded.

Storage and rebake ovens shall have a calibrated temperature gauge to SAES-W-017,

continuously monitor the temperature. Attachment 1
Portable electrode storage ovens with a minimum temperature of 120C
are considered equivalent to storage ovens. Proper use of the oven, SAES-W-017,

(e.g., closed lid, continuously on while in use), & periodic temperature Attachment 1
checks are achieved with each portable oven.
Some applications may require higher drying temperatures and shorter SAES-W-017,

atmospheric exposure times. Attachment 1

B8 Electrode types are listed in accordance with ASME SEC IIC.

C A5.1 Low Hydrogen electrodes:

Drying and Re-drying


Prior to use all electrodes shall be dried at 260-430C for 2 hours min.

NOTE: Electrodes may be re-dried only once.

Exposure times may be doubled ( 4 hours and 1 hour, respectively) if

D4 electrodes are continuously stored in a portable electrode oven heated to

Exposure of E70xx and E80xx electrodes to atmosphere for < permitted

D5 time period may be re-conditioned. NOTE: E70xx and E80xx electrodes

Higher strength electrodes (above E80xx) shall be re-dried after any

Opened SAW flux containers shall be stored continuously in ovens at

G2 65C min. or manufacturer's recommendation, whichever is greater. Any

flux becoming moist or wet shall not be used, and be discarded.

SAW Fluxes (for material with a minimum specified tensile strength > 70 Ksi):

A written procedure specifying handling requirements will be submitted SAES-W-017,

to PID. Attachment 2
Fluxes will be dried, stored and handled in accordance with the
SAES-W-017,
G4 manufacturer's recommendations, in order to achieve a dissolved

hydrogen content of less than 8ml H2/100g metal.

H SAW, GTAW, GMAW, and FCAW electrodes and wires:

All electrodes and wires shall be stored in sealed containers in a dry


SAES-W-017,
H1 environment. Any wires that have visible rusting or contamination shall

not be used and shall be discarded.

Individual gas components are identified by the following codes:


A - Argon
C - Carbon Dioxide
He -Helium
H - Hydrogen
N - Nitrogen
O - Oxygen

Table 4 - AWS Classifications for Typical Gas Mixtures:

All cylinders and containers shall be marked in accordance with DOT regulations plus the following information, legibly
marked on, or attached to, each cylinder:
i) AWS specification and classification designation (year of issue may be excluded).
ii) Suppliers name and product trade designation (name of gas)
iii) Approved DOT warning label
